Hi everyone! I hope this question is in the right place as I have never posted a new topic before...
Anyway, I was browsing the forum the other day and I saw where someone had posted a comment on one of the topics. Someone else had responded that the way that the comment was written was somewhat Lennonesque, like it was something you could almost *hear* John saying. I noticed it too, but I haven't been able to pin down what made the comment seem like something Lennon would say... Word order? Phrasing maybe?
Anyway, can anyone help me pin down Lennon's distinct phrasing or speech pattern? Is this even a thing? Or have I been watching Lennon interviews for too long? Thanks for y'all's input!

Hos voice sounds a little cartooney, and definetly British.
Here is Paul talking about it with Jimmy Fallon.

"We could ride and surf together while our love would grow"

I think he was talking more about John's syntax and diction and not so much about his accent, Sir Walter Raleigh.
John seemed to really like to play around with his words, but maybe that was just in writing, I don't know. He seemed to be a big fan of the English language.

There's a chat show host in the Uk called Paul O'Grady and I sometimes hear John in the way he speaks. Paul O'Grady can be quite effeminate as he used to play a character called Lily Savage in drag which made me realise that perhaps there was a slightly effeminate side to John's wit which has gone undetected. I know that sounds like a big leap as John was known as a very macho guy but he did have a lot of strong females around him growing up as mentioned in many of the biographies so perhaps that cutting feminine wit rubbed off on him. (Or I might be talking rubbish) Here's a clip of Paul O'Grady as Lily Savage.

If you could hug a speaking voice, I'd hug John's.

It's not a huge leap from John Lennon to Paul O'Grady. Lennon's from Liverpool, O'Grady from Birkenhead. There is probably a cross over of wit and humour as well as slightly sounding the same.

Exactly, Little Piggy Dragonguy! John's diction and syntax coupled with his accent and wit make for an absolutely entrancing voice. Charming to say the least.

Thank you for sharing, Leppo. I didn't know about Paul O'Grady. I can certainly hear a resemblance! Perhaps you're right, that it is his "cutting feminine wit".

Not talking about John but George when he spoke German had the cutest little way of pronouncing things "bahhhsuuunnnderss"- naja besonders George, it's such a pity there isn't more recordings of him speaking German because he was quite good at it.

Yeah! I would have loved to hear his voicemails that were recorded when he phoned Klaus (as it says in his autobiography that he used to speak his special Georgie German ), but they were deleted.
Oh, if I were able to have a recording of one thing!

The Apple Scruffs take over John's thread!
Really, as I said above, all of the Beatles are lovely to listen to (speech as well as the obvious musicality). Naturally, as a Harrifan, I'm especially fond of George's Speke-ing.
Ooh dear, George sounds as lovely in German as does in good old Scouse! *melts*
