I have to side with mmm, the lyrics are nothing special. However the tune is more than enough to make up for it.

Love one another.

Not special maybe, but surely heartfelt and heartwarminga-hard-days-night-john-3

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Well, yes, but they’re very simple and he didn’t seem to put much effort into them. But it’s a love song for Yoko, so that makes it heartfelt by definition. a-hard-days-night-george-10

Paul’s to Linda were heartfelt as well and get routinely thrashed. ‘Thank You Darling’ has got a lovely feel to it (especially the guitar riff that crops up) but that doesn’t stop it being utter garbage that should be forgotten about.

The real moment of off-the-cuff brilliance is when he says ‘In the middle of a shave I Call Your Name …’ It’s not a typical sort of Silly Love Song thing to say, which is precisely why it’s so effective.

I’ll agree that the lyrics aren’t exactly Strawberry Fields-quality, but surely they aren’t that bad.

John was intentionally going for more simple lyrics in general post-Beatles. I think he once described Come Together as “daft.” He was trying to be straightforward rather than clever.

I think both the lyrics and the music of Oh Yoko are brilliant. I can totally feel the playful sentiment and get behind it.

Nailed it. That line is my favourite from the album, because the reference to daily life i.e shaving makes it feel so much more real, and when that’s combined with the affection, it makes for a really sweet sentiment. I’m not at all opposed to very lyrical and obviously thought-out love songs like Something and Yesterday , but the off-the-cuff nature of Oh! Yoko makes it stand out for me.
