This has the same tune as (Forgive Me) My Little Flower Princess. Do you think he did that on purpose?

I never noticed that. I wouldn't put it past him to have done it on purpose. I wonder if he ever intended to release (FM)MLFP. It sounds a lot like him just screwing around, posdibly messing with the melody from "Bless You".

As our Beatles Bible says about the song: Lennon recorded ‘(Forgive Me) My Little Flower Princess’ at the Hit Factory studio in New York, early on in the Double Fantasy sessions. The results were only ever intended to be a reference recording for future work, enabling Lennon to reevaluate the song at a later date. That chance never came, however, and the work-in-progress was released in 1984 after his death.

The “some people say it’s over” section is an all time great Lennon moment in my opinion, solo or Beatles. The build up is fantastic. A man having lived the whole Beatles experience and looking to the future and remaining optimistic, knowing life is still there to be lived. Similar to the energy of Watching The Wheels , telling people he’s okay even if they think he’s not. The last year’s echo line has a nice defiance which I like. Even if he was actually hurting he has to carry on regardless. Anyway, amazing song, and the atmosphere is chilled out to the extreme.

"Bless You" sounds to me like John's attempt at doing a Stevie Wonder-type number; the chord changes and the spacey quasi-psychedelic production seem to be influenced by Stevie’s music of the period. I can't imagine that John wasn't a big fan, considering how Wonder was at the time hitting one of those rare peaks where a musician is recording albums that are simultaneously innovative and groundbreaking while also being huge chart hits.

I’ve been thinking about this song for a long time. The idea a shared history of a past love/friendship will always remain deep inside you and the other person even if you’re both apart and may never see each other again. I’ve been thinking of people from my past and applying this mindset as well, and it’s strangely comforting. It’s about making peace with memories and moving on too.
