With ‘Imagine ’ turning 50 in September, I would what the chance is that we will get another collection in September. Tho we did get the ‘Imagine ’ set a few years ago and it would be strange having two separate sets for one album.
Regardless, we have ‘POB’, ‘ATMP ’ & ‘LIB ’ sets and Scotland in the Euros to come this year. Oh. And I’m sure we’ll get a limited edition 50th anniversary cyan coloured vinyl pressing of ‘Ram ’ as well.

Paul is gonna kill me when he finally unveils the Ram box set. Hopefully the sheer volume of this POB set can inspire him to pack some more value into his releases.

Ram ’ has already had an archive release, albeit about 25 years ago now. If he starts going back over albums he’s already done to celebrate their 50th anniversaries before he’s issued those still waiting the first time round, god help this forum.

Tho considering ‘McCartney’ got a limited edition purple with yellow spots vinyl release with limited edition cherry stone plucker inside that nobody cared about, here might be safe.

Posted on the 14th February and provides a little insight to the upcoming ‘POB’ set that is to be announced on the 4th March, the suggested release date is 16th April. ‘Love’ is a montage consisting of demo’s, outtakes and mixes that will surely be on the set which looks to be following the format of the 2018 ‘Imagine ‘ release.

The whole ‘Love’ session has been booted but still, well worth listening to and reading the quotes from John and Yoko that are on screen. Something to really look forward to as the ‘Imagine ‘ box was brilliant (I love the raw mixes).

Great way to start the day with a mouth-watering tracklist. Don’t know where I’m going to start once I get my hands on this.

I think I might be physically hungry for this.  I loved the 2018 Imagine box set and this one looks even better.  The John Lennon estate is definitely pushing boundaries on officially released box sets.  Paul should take notes and make his archives more like this.  Flaming Pie was probably the best archive released to date, and it still is close to nothing compared to what these John Lennon box sets have looked like so far.

Bob Dylan and John’s estate are examples of really thougtful, thorough and really good box sets. I’m not sure Paul really appreciates the desire his fans have to really go behind the scenes and hear his process.

I’m not sure I’d agree Dylan’s sets are really thoughtful, @sir walter raleigh, but more his reaction to the European 50-year copyright rules that most now ignore and he still responds to. Bar three of his archive releases in the last decade (The Bootleg Series Vol. 13: Trouble No More 1979-1981The Bootleg Series  Vol. 14: More Blood, More Tracks; & The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings) every one has coincided with the 50th anniversary, and his decision whether, and what, to release as part of The Bootleg Series or to just do a very limited physical release in Europe of around 100 copies that’s soon being passed around for free on the interweb. Several times he’s seen the commercial interest in not going for limited edition European release.

I’m of the opinion that Paul wants fans to hear the tracks as he remains entrenched in the mindset that the released tracks are great and what everyone wants to hear. Have there been any outtakes of  tracks such as ‘Band On The Run ‘, ‘Another Day ‘ etc; the ‘Flaming Pie ‘ set wasn’t much outside of demos and rough mixes? For ‘FITD’ what we got was more to highlight the working relationship with Elvis Costello. All I can really remember is a bit of the vocal rehearsal for ‘Silly Love Songs’, the other outtakes are songs that were never released and pointless crap that can be argued no one ever wanted to hear. It’s the same approach as to when he plays live and gives us all the classics as he figures folk want to hear the hits as recorded back in the day.

The 2018 ‘Imagine ‘ release was brilliant and the upcoming ‘POB’ box looks every bit as good.

A disc of that would be much more valuable to me than a flipbook, or a set of postcards, or a limited edition booklet containing scans of every scrap of memorabilia from the album sessions including the crumbs from the sandwich that was eaten 5 days into recording.

They just released a box set 6 months ago, so it’s a bit too soon. But I couldn’t pass it up (even though it’s not my favorite). I’m mainly getting it for the Yoko stuff.

The other release was a compilation because of a reason I have no idea of. It was probably explained at the time, folk couldn’t go out and buy it then whereas now they… erm… Well, Covid and whatever.

Imagine a reason and let the acorn bloom.

I still remember the effect first hearing this amazing album had on me as a young man over 30 years ago. I don’t think I ever felt so close to an album, it was a very, very important and emotional experience to me.

It looks like an incredible package, listening to it all again is no doubt going to be very special.

What a great talent John was. We all know he had his faults but very few artists could connect with people like him.
