My thoughts will be with you today Johnny, and with your 2nd son. His birthday must always be touched with a little sadness as he cannot help but think of the father taken from him, us, and the world so cruelly and pointlessly.
If anybody is curious, that Janis recording is real, and was made for John. It was recorded on the 27th September 1970, and sent to John for his 30th birthday. Must have been a strange experience for John to receive it. She died on 4 October.
A glass or two of cider will be raised in memory of you today, and maybe a Brandy Alexander.
My life would be poorer without the example you set.
Cheers John, thank you, and I love you!

My gut still viscerally feels a pain from those bullets that tore him away from life and from us, and still at times a black and bleak nausea at the grievous loss wells up; then his love and wit and genius manage to reach through that horrific crime, to rise above it, to console and comfort my heart and mind, if I let it...

Oh man, I LOVE Janis Joplin! I'd totally be playing her music right now if I wasn't committed to the whole John Lennon thing at the moment!!

It is a great little (little known) recording! Also got me to wondering though. I wonder if there's a whole bunch of birthday recordings for his 30th that we don't know about. We know George did It's Johnny's Birthday that year, and for the same birthday Janis did her little bit, which is announced as a birthday present on the tape. I wonder if Yoko put out a suggestion to friends and people he admired that they do something for his big 3-0...

Thanks for posting "Bless You," MMM. It's my favorite solo John song.
It's So Hard to believe he's not with us when I look at photos and video of him bursting at the seams with life. Happy birthday, John.
And happy birthday to Sean. Also a happy anniversary to Paul, because you know that date was chosen as a nod to his dear friend.

Thanks for posting that Joplin recording, mja. I'd forgotten that existed - I hadn't heard it for so long.
So, John, you would've been 73 today. You should be turning 73 today. And it makes me so upset to think that that chance was taken away from you. Nobody should have this happen to them, and you certainly didn't deserve it. You were a beautiful man, aggravating at times, but still beautiful. It would have been nice to share the planet with you.
I'll be listening to your music today, and thinking of you, as I do most days.
Happy Birthday

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's so sad. Happy Birthday John, hope you have a great one up there.
Also a happy birthday to Sean. I can imagine birthdays haven't always been easy for him.

John, can you please forgive us for going on and on about your intimate, personal leanings? Or are you having a good laugh at us?

Happy Birthday , John Lennon !
Imagine you're still living
I hope that you can try
When I think that you're not with us
It makes me want to cry
Imagine all the people
Who love you oh so much
You-ooo
You may think that we're all dreamers
But it's all because of you
We thank you for the music
And for the memories too.
