Aside from the backing vocals which add nothing but irritation (a common occurrence throughout the entire album), ‘Out The Blue’ is a fantastic buried track in John’s catalogue – no doubt owing to ‘Mind Games ‘ being so inconsistent, and at times unlistenable.

The line

“I was born just to get to you.”

is incredible.

I love the line

“all my life has been a long slow knife”

before the line mmm posted. They pair nicely and bring out the idea of suffering and worrying about ending up with the right person.

Also as I mentioned in the Mind Games thread, I love the guitar part and how it runs through the chords causing subtle chromatic shifts that sound completely natural. Sexy Sadie does a similar thing.

"We could ride and surf together while our love would grow"

-Brian Wilson, Surfer Girl

BB, for my next thread, I’d like to ask your help:

The line where John sings “Out the blue, life’s energy” reminds me SO MUCH of another song and I just can’t think of it! Specifically the “energy-y-y” at 00:29 and 01:22, the melody and rhythm of that word.

I’m thinking something along the lines of ELO or Elton John, but it could be literally anything. Any ideas?

I think it's great you're going through a phase,

and I'm awfully glad it'll all be over in a couple

of days

This is one of if not the best John Lennon love song.  It is so beautiful and elegant while also having that John Lennon spice in the lyrics.  The line, “Like a UFO you came to me” coming out of the solo is the peak of greatness in the song.  It’s just perfect.

I like that line too, especially as it relates to his experience.
