I’m listening to this album right now and it strikes me how like Living In the Material World it sounds– sometimes. Of course the actual songs are all very Lennon and not Harrisonic at all, but some of the guitar solos (which were George).

Yet another example of how wonderfully distinctive George’s playing is. It just says George all over it. heart

Wogblog reported back on the 9th May that a deluxe edition of ‘Imagine ‘ is coming out sometime in Autumn.

According to Beatles aide Tony Bramwell, a “song and dance” version of the classic John Lennon album “Imagine ” from 1971 is in the works, to be released in the autumn. When asked what he meant with “song and dance” by Steve Marinucci, Bramwell replied “Just remixed and fiddled about with.”

If this sees the light I hope it contains a ton of outtakes and not minor differences in the mixes or the equivalent of ‘Double Fantasy … Stripped’.

Here is a very cool, very different outtake of ‘I Don’t Want To Be Soldier’.

Amazon have an official 320-page book listed for release on the 9th October 2018.

The word going around is there will be a remixed ‘Imagine ‘ album alongside the book, maybe with a second disc of outtakes, but nothing is confirmed.

Is every new John release released on the 9th October or thereabouts?

IMAGINE to be Restored and Remixed in Select Theaters This September

… Including previously unreleased cinema-exclusive bonus material, RESTORED footage, remixed, remastered and immersive Dolby Atmos soundtrack mix,…

Imagine is a cinematic collage of color, sound, dream and reality. Produced and directed by John and Yoko, who, with numerous guest stars including George Harrison , Fred Astaire, Andy Warhol, Dick Cavett, Jack Palance and Jonas Mekas, create a world of imagination as rich and moving as the music that accompanies it.

The ground-breaking music film features a different visual treatment for every song, and follows John and Yoko during the recording sessions for Imagine in both the UK and New York, as they co-produced the record with Phil Spector.

Imagine has been RESTORED frame-by-frame, from the original reels with the audio remix by triple GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer, Paul Hicks. It is accompanied by 15 minutes of never-before-seen extras including studio footage of John and his band (including George Harrison , Nicky Hopkins from the Rolling Stones, Alan White from Yes and Klaus Voormann) performing “How Do You Sleep?” and “Oh My Love” in a specially created Dolby Atmos surround sound “raw studio” mix that puts you in the center of the recording studio while the band play live.

“The people who all worked on IMAGINE were Peace People and it was so enlightening and exciting all the way through to be one of them. Remember, each one of us has the power to change the world.” – Yoko Ono

For details of cinemas participating in this special event screening visit http://www.imaginefilmtickets.com

I hope it comes near to all of us.

You’re in the wrong thread, @Ahhh Girl. This is the thread for the 1988 Andrew Solt documentary about John’s life called Imagine : John Lennon . You want the thread about the 1972 film John and Yoko made to go with the album called just Imagine .

^They need to be far more creative with naming John’s projects, can we not get a ‘Power To The People ‘ documentary or something?

The word going around is there will be a remixed ‘Imagine ‘ album alongside the book, maybe with a second disc of outtakes, but nothing is confirmed.

This is from an article published by Variety 12 hours ago:

On October 5, Geffen/UMe will release “John Lennon : Imagine : The Ultimate Box Set,” just ahead of what would have been the late musician’s 78th birthday on October 9. The remixed and remastered six-disc/140-track collection is fully authorized by Yoko Ono Lennon who oversaw the production and creative direction.

Ultimate Classic Rock also published an article 7 hours ago with the only difference being the release date (9 October).

Both articles have since been pulled for some reason; maybe they jumped the gun and broke a press embargo ahead of a more official confirmation, got their wrists slapped, and have pulled their articles to await that official confirmation.

While the 9 October is often the date for Lennon releases, I don’t think 5 October seems unlikely as it’s a Friday – which would give it a week of sales before the next charts in most countries.

Variety were the first to break the news, and given that publication’s history, I do not think they’d run the story unless they were sure of their information. It seems we have a Deluxe Imagine  on the way.

I am salivating over this and cannot wait to see what the extra 130 tracks are, and if they throw up any surprises (possibly tracks that haven’t been bootlegged and are currently unknown?).

With the White Album  Deluxe expected late November, could prove an expensive end of year for Beatles fans.

Of the 140, I think 10 will be the original album mixes and another 10 new 2018 remixes which leaves 120. I think it would be needless to just throw in ‘Anthology’ tracks and whatever else is lying around on various releases so maybe, like with the ‘Pepper’ box and the ‘Beatles Anthology’, they will be different in some way; ‘Baby, Please Don’t Go’ is edited and remixed on the ‘JLA’ so it could be included as it was recorded as could an earlier different arrangement we know exists that has never been bootlegged. John liked to have fun in the studio so would be cool to hear more of that.

Who knows. Sounds good.

Fans don’t mind paying if they get quality and new material which makes it worth it.

Yep, further confirmation that a deluxe is on the way…

Imagine-2.jpgImage Enlarger

The video showing there can be found on YT:

This is the link to the website for the deluxe… not much there yet though…

And I have found a cached version of the Ultimate Classic Rock article that’s been pulled. Based on the Variety article (so I would go for the Variety release date):

On what would have been John Lennon’s 78th birthday on Oct. 9, his album Imagine will receive an extensive box set treatment as John Lennon : Imagine : The Ultimate Box Set hits stores.

Variety reports that Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono authorized the six-disc, 140-track collection and oversaw its production and creative direction.

John Lennon : Imagine : The Ultimate Box Set contains four CDs and two Blu-ray discs; its biggest feature appears to be an extensive collection of mixes of the iconic album . There are “Ultimate Mixes,” which promise “whole new levels of sonic depth, definition and clarity to these timeless songs” (according to the set’s press release), as well as 5.1 surround sound mixes, raw studio mixes and, for the first time since the ‘70s, a four-speaker “Quadrasonic Album Mix,” which recreates the quadraphonic sound that was briefly in vogue in that decade.

The set also features a host of outtakes, rarities and isolated track elements (the separate pieces that were edited together into the produced version of the album’s songs).

The box also contains “The Evolution Documentary,” an “audio montage” that follows each song on the record from demo to finished product.

Additionally, Variety reports the films Gimme Some Truth  (a documentary about the making of Imagine ) and Imagine  (a set of home movies made around the time the album was being recorded) will be reissued in remastered HD with previously unreleased content. As previously reported, the Imagine  film will also be re-released to theaters beginning on Sept. 17.

Yoko Ono is overseeing the publication of Imagine John Yoko, a book about the recording of Imagine , also to be released Oct. 9. Her new album, Warzone (which contains a cover of “Imagine ”) will be released Oct. 19.

Good news but at the same time I’m a little annoyed as well, if this can make sense to people. John’s well known for Imagine , but he’s way much more than that. Doing his interviews in December 1980, he reflected on his whole career and life, and Imagine was just one part of it. Great album and song…but I’m sure you know where I’m coming from.

Looks like a great oportunity to get an inside view of John as a producer, something that always intrigued me as he was known to be kinda impatient in the studio and always seeking for a take that comes fresh and with not much effort. It’ll be great to listen to isolated tracks + outtakes and see how he managed to deliver us the final result… if that is what we finally get.

I understand the point, but there is another way to look at it, as a starting point. If we’re going to get expansive Deluxe editions of John’s solo albums, one if them has to be the first, and Imagine  has always been the most likely.

I’m hoping that this is the beginning of the process, and that his other albums will receive similar Deluxe editions in due course.

With a Deluxe White expected late-November, maybe the Deluxe Pepper marked the beginning of a new age for the Beatles’ back catalogue. And it could be that this Deluxe Imagine  marks a similar shift in the Lennon camp toward his work.

I have zero belief that there will be a deluxe ‘Rock and Roll’, ‘STINYC’ or ‘Walls And Bridges ‘ (lost weekend and all that) as Yoko is fixated on ‘Imagine ‘ being the focal point on almost every John release from books to ice-cream. ‘JLPOB’ comes with much praise so we might see that, maybe ‘Double Fantasy ‘ as well, all followed by ‘Imagine ‘ at 50 where we get another new remix.

So we get 4 different mixes of the same songs? Why do we need the Quadrasonic mixes at all? If it’s notably different then great but if minimal who gives a damn.

And the idea of hearing snippets of demos and outtakes as we are taken on a journey of each song from meager beginning to triumphant conclusion sounds like a waste of space. Do a Dylan, give us all the outtakes and let us hear the sessions, all complete.

Yes, I’m a bit worried about just what those “audio montages” might turn out to be, @meanmistermustard.

Given that it lists 2 Blu-Rays (hope there is also a DVD set), and that the confirmation post says it is an audio set, you’d think one Blu-Ray will be the 5.1, quad and, possibly, the “Ultimate Mixes” (depending on how big those are). The other Blu-Ray, therefore, would be the “Evolution Documentary” with its “audio montages”. Assuming that’s right, it’s hard to understand why it would need that space if just a few short snippets of each song at different stages.

Assuming the “Evolution Documentary” is the second Blu-Ray, it could prove that those “audio montages” are quite extensive explorations containing more than just short snippets. You could easily have an hour+ on each song on an audio Blu-Ray and still see it counting as only 10 out of the 140 tracks.

Not saying I’m not worried they won’t prove to be what you fear, just that if it’s on audio space, there’s a lot of scope for what it could be.

And me, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I understand the difficulties with Some Time… as a Deluxe. It’s a difficult album full stop because it is so political and of its time. I think the suggestion that Yoko would have a problem with Deluxe’s of Walls And Bridges  and Rock and Roll just isn’t borne out by the evidence, though. The second set of studio recordings she released posthumously was Menlove Avenue – one side of W&B outtakes and one side of R&R outtakes, nor were the albums under-represented on the John Lennon Anthology.

She hasn’t ignored those sessions because of “lost weekend and all that” before, so why would start now?
