This was asked of my complaint about the amount of pointless threads that have been cropping up recently earlier.
The threads are our index. The shorter an index the easier it is to navigate. It really is that simple.
What, for instance, is the difference between the long running “Derail” thread and the new “Off topic” thread? I can’t see one. Are posters heights really worth their own thread?
Some people say, “Why not?” I say, “Why?”
Don’t just create threads because you can, but because they create a conversation that can’t happen elsewhere. In both instances I’ve quoted, I don’t see either as needing to exist outside the derail thread.
As mods are looking to consolidate threads I get frustrated at people creating threads that will have mods having to decide if they are a “subject” that deserves a new thread.

@Von Bontee It is an irony! But I could say the same in multiple threads or create a new thread to respond. I chose the new thread.
@Starr Shine? As to whether the “off topic” thread was dug up from the graveyard, it doesn’t mean anything. The “derail” thread won that debate when the question was asked. A thread that lasted a few pages isn’t replacing a later thread with the same aim that is the longest thread on the forum.

Fail entirely to see the harm in the threads, they have more to them than the hurt/heal, are fun to join in (i like the daft humour and topics that are a bit left field) and do no harm. The Beatles are to be enjoyed and discussed and thats what we are all here for but like with anything its fun to break off and have a laugh about nothing in particular.
The forum is enormous and digging up a thread that already exists isnt going to make it any more difficult or easy to find another thread anyway – and i enjoy looking back at what was happening before i was here so for that i am thankful (wouldnt have found Zig’s wonderful rewrite of You Like Me Too Much ). And the “new ‘Off Topic’ thread” isn’t new it was created by MrBig back on the 24th May 2010 and actually was in existance before the Impossible To Derail thread which was created on the 10th November 2010, nearly 5 months later, and by a Mod too
.
Basically thats Zig’s fault.
So in short i fail to see the problem.
