It will no doubt be another bug in the system, but a very minor one.
Only spammer accounts are deleted; if someone else wants their account deleted the individual concerned has to contact Joe personally and discuss it with him due to events in the past. Post-wise I highly doubt Joe has had the time, patience or desire to go thru all the accounts and delete the less active ones.

In the wayback machine archive, on August 2nd, there were 3605 members. Now there are 2113. It is a common practice on forums to cull the accounts that never posted or logged in.
That might not be what is going on here but it could be why some birthday people stop showing up.

Actually i do remember something about posts being deleted and Joe apologising that some people’s post #’s may have been reduced.

I just cleaned out some caches for things like user stats. You might see your post count go down a little, if some of your older posts were deleted at some point. Hopefully it won’t wreck anything else.

@William Shears Campbell I don’t know why the birthdays might not be showing on the actual day. I’ll look into it.
Culling accounts. Yes, I delete obvious spam accounts. If someone registers and leaves a spam message, we’ll delete it and I’ll zap the account. All new users get a welcome message which makes it clear that only Beatles-related own-projects are allowed to be self-promoted here, and they must go into Pimp Your Stuff. If people don’t bother reading the instructions I tend to think they care more about spamming their own stuff than they do about being a good forum member. Bye then.
As MMM said, I did reset the cache on user stats. I don’t know if that made a significant difference to the numbers. What’s probably more effective was adding a 365-day limit on non-used accounts. This means that if someone signs up and doesn’t post within 365 days, their account gets automatically wiped. I only implemented this last week, so it might have cleaned out several hundred accounts.
What does this mean? Well, if anyone has an old account which they used to use, but have left dormant for more than a year, it won’t get deleted. This is for people who signed up and never used their accounts for whatever reason. I once had problems with people not receiving their welcome emails and passwords, so a number of the unused accounts were probably due to that. It was my fault (sorry to all those people) but the system seems to be working fine now. More of the unused accounts will be from spambots which signed up but never posted. I had a lot of those back in the day.
I don’t go through old accounts and delete them manually, unless there’s an obvious reason to do so.

It’s actually a video or something that doesn’t exist anymore and now it is still there and for some reason on the new format it decides to block the page numbers. It’s not an ad, its something in the last post on the page. Its on a couple other threads as well, and to get around it i just type “page-[whatever number page you want to go to] at the very end of the URL.

EDIT: I would have sworn that you had written that it was post 449 that was causing the problem.

The numbers are sometimes visible but you can’t click on them. Also it’s only on the “What are you listening to right now” and a couple other threads. It’s something in the bottom post that’s causing it.
