I just woke up on my last morning in Venice. I’m seeing the messages you all have sent. I only have 2 “red” threads so I may need links to threads that have posts in moderation status. I will let you know. I may just call Joe about this one.

It looks like the forum may have sorted itself out. I see some posts have gone through in the last hour or so. I will begin the process of approving posts while I am eating breakfast. I will let you know when I have found all the ones needing approval that I can find. Then I will ask you all to check to see if there are any I missed.

Well, I’ve got all the ones I could find. If you still have a post under moderation, please PM me. I have to go catch a plane now, but I will check in when I can to see if anything needs to be approved.

Sorry everyone. I’m not sure why it’s happening. There’s a spam filter right across the site (which handles comments and forum posts) and normally it works fairly well, but occasionally picks up false positives. In theory the system learns and should get better if messages get approved, but obviously it’s not perfect.

I’ve disabled it on the forum because I don’t want it getting in people’s way. If spam becomes a problem I’ll rethink it.

I’m just now seeing the new layout on a pc. I only had my phone while was on vacation/holiday.

Thanks for all the hard work you do to keep the site running, Joe.

For several days now, odd things have been happening on the BB Forum.  I don’t see my posts, or even the current posts of others, show up in the list at the bottom like I used to.  Then, sometimes it will continue to show the last post supposed to be the latest with an obviously wrong time stamp, e.g. “23 minutes ago” — when I know I saw that one comment like 24 hours ago.  Also, occasionally I have published a comment, then gone back later to that thread, but it doesn’t appear, then I re-open and it’s there, then later it’s not there…. etc.

Plus, forgive me for saying, but this new look is less appealing than the old look.  I didn’t say anything until now because for a couple of weeks I thought “this must be just a temporary look until they refurbish”.  But it’s been here so long now, I guess it’s permanent?

Note I use Firefox, and have always used Firefox.

The birthday glitch may be sorted now. It worked for me in testing, at least.

I’ve set the site/server timezone to London. I also set my forum profile to London time, but didn’t really need to. When I changed my birthday to today it updated (please note: the birthday thing runs a script once a day, so if you change your date it might not update immediately).

The thing I’m not sure of is how it’ll affect people in non-London timezones. Hopefully someone will let us know if it’s still lagging by a day.

Your birthday is showing in the upcoming line. Is that where you planned for it to be the way you have it set? Thanks for working on this.

I just forgot to re-run the script after testing it. Should be OK now. But I guess we all have an upcoming birthday.

I still can’t reply to private messages on my work PC, and I am no longer able to “mention” anyone.

Which browser/OS are you using? I’m on Win 7 and it works fine with Chrome and FF. Haven’t tried it on IE because it’s a horrible browser (or at least the version we have at work is).

We use IE at work. I can’t mention people on IE or on Safari. I’m not sure what changed. Once upon I time, I was able to do it.

I’ve had intermittent problems with mentioning people. I’m on Windows 8.1, Chrome.

I’ve also started having some problems @-ing people. Sometimes the box (members list) just doesn’t appear, other times it does. Windows 7, Opera.

RN, I assume you are using the Rich Text editor from the way your post reads.

parlance, is that the one you are using?

I type in a thread I want in the search and it shows every single thread EXCEPT the one I want.

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

I have no idea whether using Rich Text or not. I just use the reply box that comes up. If Rich Text is default then that’s what I’m using, if not then I’m using something else… I’ve certainly never selected an “editor”.

You can find out which editor you’re on by going to your profile, selecting options from the top tab menus (profile, options, usergroup etc) and then selecting “edit posting options” on the left hand side menu. I’ll write out clear steps and then add it to the “how to. . .” guide.
