Weird things happening with the forum | Page 26 | Fab Forum | The Beatles Bible

There were a load of updates to WordPress and Simple Press, which I applied this morning. You might notice a few changes (the sub-forums for the albums now have thumbnail images, a “jump to page” option where there are multiple pages).

However, the update to the visual editor, which allows you to format text, add images etc, doesn’t work properly, and was disabling the text field when posting forum messages or PMs. The only way to get it working again is to disable the editor, which reduces the options available.

While I’m troubleshooting I might have to re-enable it Now And Then to do some testing. Please bear with me if you’re unable to post.

@Joe I’m not sure if this change will stick, but on my phone, with the way it is now, I can use my arrow keys to move around in the text, and I can copy and paste text. Looks like I can also use the text formatting features. I don’t know what functions I may have lost elsewhere, if any, but these abilities are nice. I will do some checking on a computer in just a moment to see if things have changed on my PC. I also took a screenshot on my phone of what the editor looks like on my phone now. I still can’t figure out how to post it from my ancient smartphone. I will post it when I get on my PC.

There was an update to the mobile theme – nothing to do with me; it was by the Simple Press team. I’m glad it didn’t make things worse (and indeed, made the mobile experience better for you).

OK, it looks like thanking is broken. I’ll look at it when it isn’t Friday night and I’m not relaxing with a bottle of wine.

Edit: Thursday, not Friday! I’m not drunk yet, honest. I’m off work till Tuesday so relaxing a little.

Edit 2: Those errors upon thanking people don’t appear when the page is refreshed. Still not ideal though.

Annadog40 – can you try clearing your browser cache or performing a hard refresh on the page? I was getting those errors when I was carrying out the maintenance but you shouldn’t still be seeing them.

I may be the only one who relies on this, but the RSS feed for the forum stopped updating as of yesterday.

@parlance It does seem to be updating. When I open the raw feed it shows the latest messages.

@mentions are back. I’ll get onto the Thanks issues now.

@Ahhh Girl Not sure why the mobile theme might have changed – there haven’t been any more updates since your first message, apart from the old text editor buttons being put back. You can choose which text editor you want under Profile/Options – give that a go and see if it comes back.

Edit: @mentions are sort of back. When you start typing a name and click to auto-complete, it puts the name in the message, minus the @ symbol. You have to go back and manually put the @ before the name to get it to link. I’ll report the bug.

Thanks are fixed. I’ve reported the @mentions issues – hopefully they’ll get sorted soon.
