@meanmistermustard  So yes, getting the Digest takes all the emails away and I don’t have to Watch the threads (haven’t tried, don’t see the need to now).  I get links in one email to all the topics I am subscribed to that have had new comments added to them each day, and I get directed right to that newest page for each topic.  It’s pretty convenient.

Plug: “The email Digest is quick, easy, and convenient – from my laptop OR phone!  Now I’m in touch with the latest forum news without weeding through tens of emails every day.  My whole forum life changed in just a few short minutes.  Thank you Beatles Bible.”brian-epstein

Don’t necessarily want to be giving you mods and Joe more work, but as long as you’re doing this Summer Cleanup thing, I’d like to suggest merging the Milestone Posts thread with this one: https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..h-posting/

Happily, the timelines for the two don’t overlap at all, so that should make the merge fairly easy, if I understand how the procedure works.

Thanks!

I suggest that you merge the “100th post” thread into the “milestone post” thread instead of the other way around. But that’s just me.

Here are a couple of threads that can maybe be deleted entirely – particularly the last two, which have only a single post on them, mine!

https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..me/#p65110
https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..ur/#p55460
https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..influence/

I’m presuming Paulsbass started these threads, yet my account credits them to me because I was the first responder on all of them.

Incidentally, is this thread the best place to suggest/request these changes, or is the normal procedure to send a PM to a mod/Joe?

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

This thread is probably the best place for it, yes, unless you spot something that can be deleted/changed and prefer to leave a note on that thread instead. Whatever’s easiest.

With the summer clean we’re not looking to alienate anyone or make them feel unwelcome. We’re trying to make the forum better so it’s more enjoyable for everyone, but working on a principle of the greatest good for the greatest number. Some people might not like to see some things get closed, changed or merged, but please try to understand where we’re trying to get to. An even better forum, hopefully!

Hey, my apologies if I missed an answer to this, but what a plague: every time I click on my “Subscribed” button above and right of the threads, I get logged out.  I check that all the time to link right to the threads that I am writing in, but as I said I get logged out every time I touch it, so that I can’t reply without logging in again and going through the formal path to the thread, and it’s really bothersome!  Help !

@Crinsk, is this a bug you are experiencing or a design flaw in that ‘log out’ is next to ‘subscribe’ (if the latter i’m presuming you’re on a mobile device as on my laptop there are two buttons separating those)?

crinsk, I will second mmm’s question. The page where I log in to use the wifi at work makes me tap/touch way away from where the actual check mark box is on the touch screen to get the check mark to actually go in the box. If I don’t get it just right it opens a new link and takes me to the policy page.

To give Joe more information, what device are you using? Which browser? Are you seeing the buttons side-by-side? (On my Android phone, I don’t see the buttons. Those options are in a drop down Android-y menu thingie.) Is this the only place on the forum that is acting that way for you (as far as getting something different when you touch a spot on the screen)? I’m not sure if there is something Joe can do about it, but more info can’t hurt.

I’m using my laptop, a late 2008 MacBook.  I use Safari as my browser.  I never have issues with other sites.  Actually, I just got logged out by clicking on the “Fab Forum” arrow-shaped button on the top left.  I didn’t have this issue at first.  I’ll try restarting the computer later.  I was posting earlier in Films: A Hard Day’s Night , trying to add bullets, when it pinwheeled on me and I had to quit the web and login and rewrite everything.  I’ve been running GarageBand at the same time but it’s not affecting me now…?

As for the Subscribed button I mentioned earlier, no, on the computer it’s between “Watching” and “Inbox” buttons so I am not missing the right button, I am sure.  I don’t think it’s a design flaw.

It’s not a problem on my phone.  I don’t have a modern enough phone; all I do on that is read new posts through links in my email; I can never post.

Is there yet another function I’ve missed where I can choose to Stay Logged In, or select how long I want to remain logged in?  I haven’t found one…

I like grapes!

I should add that I did update my system to OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 late last year or early this year; everything has been running OK.

When signing in below where you enter your username and password there is a box you can check that will “remember you”; it saves having to log in each time you visit the site however i think it depends on your computer/devices settings for it to to work (someone who knows about computers will be able to confirm that or say its complete gibberish).

Not a design flaw as its where it should be (as it should be). Sounds like one for Joe to see if he can figure out if its down to a forum glitch or is coming from elsewhere.

Joe, in the forum’s advanced search box, can you make the default be to search Topic Titles Only? The forum search box is best used to search for threads/thread titles. A Google search works better for finding information in posts.

I personally would like the other default to be for the search to search All Forums instead of Current Forum, but you might want to get input from others on how they use the search function and how they would feel about that change.

Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

I was thinking about Joe & the Mods’ tidy-up of the forum, and those threads created since its announcement that have needed merging.

Wouldn’t it be an idea to have a “Places to Post” thread with links, and maybe pin some of those threads that people are missing when they create a new thread?

“Places to Post” thread could be something like:

While we do not mind new threads, can you consider if these serve your purpose.

If you have a question about The Beatles (together or solo):
The Beatles;
John Lennon ;
Paul McCartney ;
George Harrison ;
Ringo Starr .

If you have a video that reminds of The Beatles.

etc. All with links to things like “Miscellaneous Questions About The Beatles”, “Miscellaneous Questions About John”, etc., threads (or whatever they’re called), and the “Songs That Sound Beatle-y” thread.

Just a kind of “These are the go-to threads before starting a new thread” list taking in each part of the forum, and pinning some of the more important of those threads, like the “Questions About” ones…

The main issue for me isnt folk adding new threads that are repeating ones that already exist as its very quick and simple to move a post to another topic, takes about 30 seconds, its what it leads to. Yesterday i went searching and came back with three possible topic merges with about 12 threads – AG is still recovering from the dizzy spell. Go digging and you find it quite a lot of roots.

So looking at it in a different way folk posting repeat threads actually helps with the clean-up as it propels us to find others of a similar nature and pull them all together.
