Such an idea has always been rejected by the vast majority of posters here, @Little Piggy Dragonguy. Most here would see it as a negative move.

Why do you think it would be a good idea? I have a suspicion that, were Joe to introduce one, you would not want it acting like the “thank” button, and want a box coming up declaring:

“The following people marked this post as sad:
Little Piggy Dragonguy”.

And if you don’t want that, if you are looking for something that allows anonymous criticism without a right of reply, then this is the wrong forum for that.

Just my opinion though.

I think it would be a good idea because there are a lot of posts here that make me sad, but not in a way where I think the post/er is sad (as in pathetic). I mean sad as in it gives me bad vibes for that post/er or whatever situation they are posting about. It’s not in a criticizing way and I don’t think it would be used that way.

Thanks for your opinion, Ronny. You’re probably right.

Holy new layout, Batman!

Looks cool, but will take some getting used to.

EDIT: I actually rather dig it! Gonna go play around and see some more.

Glad you don’t hate it!

I’ve rolled back to the previous forum theme to see if it fixes the quotes issue.

EDIT: It hasn’t, which means I know where the problem lies. I introduced two new skins – one for the whole forum, and another more minimalist theme for the forum. It’s the whole-forum theme which is borking quotes. I’ll have a dig around when I can and fix it. In the meantime please post as normal and don’t get too worried – when the styling is fixed it’ll all display correctly.

Do you think you’ll some day implement a way to switch between themes or would that be too difficult.

I wish we could react to people’s posts on here like you can on Facebook because there are a lot of posts I see that I would like to mark as “sad”

You could, of course, always quote said post and add a reply saying it makes you sad. That would work, right?

If a change was brought in that made it possible to negatively comment on an individual’s post automatically I would no longer be a mod; this place is to to be encouraging and friendly, not enabling folk to press a button so they can in some way apply a negative connotation to a post. Thankfully the other mods and the vast majority of others here don’t want to see such a move.

God forbid here moved to be more like Facebook.

It’s not currently possible. It may be in the future, I don’t know. But I don’t really want to be supporting multiple themes.

OK, I’m still having trouble with getting quotes to work properly. It’s a coding issue – this new theme I’m using shoves the whole reply in a single blockquote, rather than just the bit that’s being quoted. It’s really confusing. The theme wasn’t designed for this forum, it’s an all-purpose skin for websites, but it’s difficult to anticipate every use-case.

As an interim measure I’ve removed the background shade that went underneath quotes. It means it might be hard to work out what’s a quotation and what’s the addition, particularly if multiple paragraphs are involved, but it’s the best I can do right now.

Sorry everyone. It was either that or roll back to the previous theme, but that had problems too. Glad PMs are back @Ahhh Girl.

Keep reporting stuff here, but it’s late right now and I need a glass of wine. We’re going away tomorrow and, although I’ll be able to check in, I won’t be able to do much in the way of bug fixing until Monday or Tuesday.

Maybe people could use a slight insert at the beginning of anything they’re quoting, and then not for their reply?

It used to insert a horizontal rule (line) automatically beneath quotes, but I don’t think it’s an option any longer. I spent ages just looking to see if I could enable it. When I get back to my desk I’ll see if I can hack a template to make it happen. In the meantime manually adding some hyphens beneath a quote would definitely help.

Or you could put something on top of the quote, that seems to fix it for me.

I don’t have this problem. At the top of the page it says “Hello Little Piggy Dragonguy” and then right under that it has a thing that says “You have x topics with unread posts” and if I click on that it brings me to a list of my unread topics.
