Is whatever uploaded or attached capable of being downloaded by someone else? If someone ups a text or mp3 file will someone else be able to download it (so basically file sharing), which would create a whole load of copyright issues?

Additionally what is the ranking information about?

I don’t know. I haven’t tested it yet. Here’s an uploaded image to play with:40s_john-lennon_001.jpgImage Enlarger

I think it just displays the file, whatever format it’s in. If it’s a doc or whatever then yes, that person will be able to download it. It’s essentially the same as having to find an image online and point to it, although this way you can just upload it from your hard drive.

The ranking information on the profiles? It’s just another feature that came with paid support, which allows people to see who’s made which rank and how long it takes to get there. Some forums can have extra features unlocked with each level but I don’t bother with that.

If anyone is concerned about putting their actual birth year into their profile, will it be o.k. if they just use 2014 as the year?

You could, but it won’t let you have dates that haven’t taken place. So you might as well choose the right day and month from, say, 2000.

I haven’t seen the birthdays in action yet, so I don’t know if it displays actual years or just says “It’s X’s birthday on Tuesday/today!”

@DrBeatle – you can’t thank yourself, so look for the button on someone else’s message. If it’s still not showing it might be a caching thing, though it appeared for me straight away.

@Joe, I am not seeing it on anyone’s messages, mine (obviously) or anyone else’s…any idea why?

EDIT:more weirdness ensues. I, Ahhh Girl, am the one who is writing this post, but it is showing up like FFE is writing it.

OK that’s definitely bad. I’ll see what on earth might be causing it.

My main forum is all messed up, too…all of the Beatles-related forums are listed under “non-Beatle” discussion! @Joe

The forum restructure has been discussed in the “Weird things happening” thread. I’m getting it fixed.

This thread is for forum changes, eg new features. Please don’t post bugs here as it’d get hugely confusing.

I’ll look into the Thanks thing now. You’re right – it doesn’t work with my test account either. UPDATE – it’s a permissions thing.

OK, I think I’m getting there. Does the “Thank” button show up now?

Edit: seems to work with my test account. I think we’re in business.

I really like the ranking info, but I can’t find it from the main forum. How do I get there?

The birthdays is a cool idea, as are the Thanks. Rollback sucks (and it’s definitely at least 12 hours, cause all of my posts from yesterday are gone.

Thanks again Joe!

I like not having to make a whole new post to say “thanks”!

Even though I just did

New feature: thanks! You can thank someone if their message helps you. The option should be next to the PM button on each of their messages.

How do you un-thank people?

Looks like you can’t. Maybe there should be an Unthank button too, or clicking again removes the thanks. I’ll see if I can request the option.

There’s also a forum plugin that allows thumbs up/down ratings on posts. Would that be useful to people, or just extra clutter?

Myself, I think it’d just be extra clutter. I never bother with those when they do appear. That’s just me though.

However, I would suggest allowing the changes you made yesterday (with the “thanks” and the “@” etc.) to bed in, and consider the thumbs once we’ve got used to yesterday’s new features.

I don’t think we need up/down-thumbs as well as the thanks feature. It would make everything a bit cluttered, I think.

Yeah and down thumbs give off a very negative feel too. Is that what we need? I DON’T THINK SO!

Maybe you could make an up thumb button instead of the Thank button though. It makes it more general. Or clicking again to remove the Thank, that’s already fine enough too.

I’m not sure he can pick and choose. I think if you have the thumbs up icon then you have the thumbs down too.

I’m with the others in not liking the idea of being able to negatively rate a post. The thank you’s are a neat addition but what benefit would it bring in giving a poster a minus.

@meanmistermustard If you want to alert someone to a post you’ve made, you type @+user name, and it should give a message telling that person to have a look.

Yeah, thanks. I typed the ‘@’ sign in the off-chance something might happen and the options came up in the Avatar thread, never got back in time to fix myself. Bit weird seeing the notification appear.
