I have just started having an odd issue where the main site will occasionally display on the left-hand 2/3 of the screen only, with the two right-hand photos at the top above their own column of white space.
No issues like this with the forums though.

A screenshot would be useful, but also which OS and FF version you’re on.

Not really sure what you mean by this. Is it just a problem on the gallery? I’ve had javascript problems which mean the previous/next photos don’t display very well, but I’ve been ignoring it so far.

I am using Windows 7, Firefox 24.0, and it just started a couple of days ago.
I hope this works:

Ooh that’s interesting. I’d not seen it before. I’m on Win7 here at work but I’m only allowed to run FF9. I’ll see if I can find a newer version.

Very weird. Just went to home page and it’s doing the same for me. Not only Firefox though. Just pulled it up on Chrome and same thing. IE is showing the page correctly.

Did you allow it to load fully, or take a quick glimpse? On mine, and I have whatever the latest update of FF is, it looks like it’s loading fine, and then switches to weird once it’s loaded.

Yip. It was on for a good few minutes and was fine. Went back on the homepage just now and it loaded and its sitting there on display with all three columns filling the screen.

Is this a recent change? Was it working fine until this past week?

To be repreSENTin’ the 99% who have to suffer crappy computers because The Man be o-PRESSin’ them y’all (that percentage just as much of a wild exaggeration as the OWS mantra…) — all seriousness aside (as Steve Allen used to say):
For those fellow Beatle-Biblethumpers who like me have a crappy connection, I just want to say I feel their pain. Often (too often) when I come to the Forum, and click around, go room-hopping, just chillin, checkin out what my fellow homeys the BBs is sayin’ yall (thrust one gloved hand forward gun-shooting-like-the-hoodies-in-the-Hood-kiddies style, while the other hand is spinning the wax) — I find that my computer slows down something fierce, and sometimes I’m waiting like 10 to 15 minutes just to do a simple operation that should take 10 to 15 seconds at worst (and even 10-15 seconds would seem too slow to the privileged 1-percenters in their fancy limousine laptops up on their penthouse Browsers breathing that golden wireless air…)
(Example: just now, I wanted to make one little edit, and I had to wait almost 60 seconds while my mouse cursor started spinning its blue ball and my screen kept going white, etc…)
But, I guess most of the time I manage, and manage to enjoy the fine company here and their stimulating convos (if not, I’d probably not hang around).

^^ Now I’m feeling guilty and spoiled, FP. My computer and internet connection aren’t all that wiz-bang, but a might bit faster than your’s. I’m not a one percenter. If I were, I’d buy you a new computer and a faster connection.
You are tenacious to keep plugging along, and that makes us happy because we enjoy your input.

Thanks cbatcu. It’s not so bad some days. That’s one thing that annoys me most about computers, they are not consistent in their flaws.
Neither am I. Does that make me a computer?

I resent the time spent tinkering with them when they don’t work too well, or rebuilding everything when a hard disk crashes and you need to replace it. Then again, reminds me of my car.
I am using a cheap Chromebook these days for most browsing etc. I have a decent internet connection but this site is one of the slowest of the ones I visit.

That’s the thing — you expect inconsistency in a human, but a computer should not be inconsistent. Imagine if at odd times, at random when you never could predict, and you could never get to the bottom of why exactly, the living room light or kitchen light you flick on goes on fine, then the next two times it wavers in and out, then the next three times after that it works fine again, then it doesn’t work for 2 hours the following day, then it works fine for a few days, etc.
With simpler technology you know when something is flawed or broken, and you can pretty much rely on it behaving consistently broken or flawed, and it’s rarely a great mystery why they are breaking down or malfunctioning. Not so, apparently, with computers. Sometimes it’s maddening.

OK, I think I know what the problem is. Some javascript got compressed to speed up loading times, but I think it affects the layout. I’ll see if I can get it fixed.
