It’s interesting that, while I accept it may become a locked thread, you criticise me for saying that, without saying it won’t be.
That list was never complete as the music threads, in whatever guise they are decided on, are not listed. Admittedly SWR’s updates are not music related but there was always room for discussion and right from the start we have been willing to listen, consider and, where felt required/appropriate, reply to everyone’s questions, comments or concerns.
I wasn’t criticising saying it will be locked, I replied to your post where you said he would be “stripped of having a voice” and that “banning someone communicating in the way they said they would many months after they said the way they have been, disgraceful.” There is no banning or stripping as there has been no final decision on a thread that, as far as we were aware, SWR had agreed to move to StarrShine’s forum before we could ever reply; if he is happy we’re not going to stop him, that’s not our role.

Offline Okay, such shit happening with the forum that it seems if I criticise I get called a disappointing arsehole instead of someone who wants an honest discussion.
I loved what this forum was, but – apart from PM conversations – much to Zig’s delight, who has spent the last few months trying to drive me off the forum (from an email, paraphrase, “I will happily open the door for you to leave…”, so tired of this fecking crap. If only all mods were like @Ahhh Girl and serving the forum instead of themselves.
I quit. Can’t be bothered anymore, and won’t play a part in the destruction of the forum. Seems, now that Joe’s grabbed hold of opinions that many don’t want, my voice is out of place.
I will talk to those I want to, and who want to talk to me, via email or PM.
Call me disgusted and disappointed.
Sad to be driven out by Zig and meanmistermustard, but not staying around to be bullied by mods for not agreeing with them.
This isn’t the forum I joined, and am sorry Joe has let the bullies take over.
As I’ve said, I will respond to PMs and emails from people who have my email, but I am so tired of being bullied by certain mods that I quit.
I have nothing left.
Sorry, and goodbye.

Bloody hell, calm down @Ron Nasty. You’re not being bullied. Don’t call people arseholes or tell them to feck off. Be civil or begone.
Nobody’s driving you away. You’re choosing to leave because some changes have been proposed, which are up for debate, with which you disagree. That’s your prerogative.
As MMM pointed out so patiently, the initial list I proposed was marked TBC, and I’ve asked for people to suggest which threads they would like to have retained. Your request has been noted.
I originally said I’d be making changes in a week, but I’ve left it open longer because I wanted to hear people’s thoughts. Thanks to those who have engaged in this. I’m still trying to come up with a way of presenting non-Beatles music in a more manageable way. Then there’s the question of whether we keep other arts (books, films etc). And then where do you draw the line? Why not continue the sports discussions? And all the rest? This is really tricky to get right, and I’m genuinely open to suggestions as long as they’re polite and non-confrontational.

Offline I have been self-serving with some of my suggestions. 
For one, I personally would like to see discussions of current news banished from *this* forum. Too many tiffs that pull us apart over what’s going on in the world. But I know I don’t rule the forum, so News posts may still be allowed in Impossible to Derail. It’s Joe’s call ultimately, and that is fine with me.

Offline I’ve put a stop to new threads from being created in the ATN section. You can still reply to discussions that are already there, you just cannot start brand new ones.
The rest of the forum will remain fully open.
I realise this won’t be popular, but it follows a lot of the discussions that have been going on here. New ATN threads don’t get started all that often, so it shouldn’t really make much difference, but I didn’t want someone to start a chat about something that would have to get locked/migrated/merged at a later date.
There will be places already in existence that can still be used to discuss a band or book or whatever, so please feel free to post there. I’ll give fair warning if I’m going to make other changes.
I’m also going to do a bit of experimenting to see if I can get threading working properly. The last time I tried it the index of latest posts etc got messed up, but there might be a way to reset them.

Offline Wow. This is the second time I have been portrayed as the bad guy in this thread. So now I am in the unenviable position of having to defend myself.

I don’t recall what the email conversation was about, but I do recall I was not backing down from something RN was suggesting or accusing or whatever. I also do not recall the exact words but I did not leave it at “I will happily open the door for you to leave…”. That I can promise you. I responded to him by saying something like (again, forgetting the exact words) “I will happily open the door for you to leave…”, but would rather you would stay. Again, I can’t recall the exact words because I have since deleted the email and moved on. RN and I have had civil conversations on The Forum since then, so imagine my stunned surprise when this was thrown back in my face…out of context no less. Nothing about this delights me – especially having to publicize what I thought was a private email conversation that occurred months ago. For my part, I apologize for all of you having to read about it.

I have no idea where that came from as I have always said RN was an incredible resource and asset to The Forum. To call mmm and/or I a bully is so unfair and incredibly not true.

A sad day for all. I do wish you would reconsider. 
I have not posted much in this thread as I have been reading and digesting the decisions put forth. The thing that concerns me most is that there has been a good deal of overreaction caused by this decision. We are not saying “Beatles or nothing!”. That would be foolish. What we are trying to do is direct the conversations more toward what the site was intended for and reduce the clutter. Nobody is trying to destroy any sense of community. Nobody is bullying anyone.
Like most of you, when I do go online, this is the first site I log on to in the morning while having my first cuppa – a cuppa @Joe you might say. Often, it is the last site I see before turning in. I do so because I love absorbing all I can about The Beatles, but also because I do enjoy the sense of community – the camaraderie. If you don’t believe me, look at the Derail and Birthday threads. Guess who started those. When longtime members leave or slowly vanish, I feel it. Maybe I shouldn’t, but I can’t help it. I can name so many former members that are no longer active posters that I miss dearly. I hope you believe me when I say from the bottom of my heart that I hope RN does not become one of those.
