About meditation, I learned some relaxation exercises a few years ago, they are very simple breathing and stretching exercises. They're like baby steps for yoga, you can find some very easy ones on Internet. And to be honest, they're an excellent complement for any physical exercise.

You are correct. Meditation can be done even if you are sitting on a chair and just doing breathing exercises inhaling with your nose and exhaling with your mouth. I recommend alternate nostril breathing for relaxation. This is something you can do from the desk at your work place when you are stressed. Yoga is the perfect way to prepare yourself for meditation.

I have been doing Yoga since the mid-1970's and keep in mind that if you are practicing Yoga, you are practicing a form of Hinduism.

What I liked about George is he never felt he needed to change his physical appearance and make himself look like the 'Hare Krishna's' It is what we feel in the inner self that counts and how we live our lives each day.

I really like that song.  There’s something special about its energy.

I confess that after having a very nice dream with George the night before my bday, I’ve been listening to Brainwashed and All Things Must Pass a lot. And I have to say I have never paid attention to Beware Of Darkness lyrics until today.

Wow. I mean the lyrics are so simple, and yet very powerful. He advices you, but he doesn’t sound like preaching. And I like it because when I’m Down , I hate those “don’t worry be happy” songs (unless it’s sung by slugs) and I listen to rock songs to cheer up. The only “don’t worry be happy” song I really like and helps me is “Stuck in a moment you can’t get out of it”. (Bono wrote it after learning Michael Hutchance’s suicide).

But BoD is .. I dunno. In another level definetly. I love it. I’m figuring out all the lyrics. that Maya bit makes me intrigued. I’m definetly going to investigate more about Hare Krishna tradition, although I feel more inclined to Dalai Lama’s ideas.

Beware Of Darkness ‘ is one of my favorite songs. It does have a lot of meaning and impact. I know a lot of critics were on his case regarding him being ‘preachy’ with his lyrics but he was writing songs that had a lot of meaning to him and wanted to share it. I saw him perform in 1974 during the ‘Dark Horse Tour’ with the Indian section and really enjoyed it and it seemed the fans enjoyed it too but the critics let him have it. I have always felt George was ahead of his time. Look at the music of today and how much the eastern music and philosophy has been incorporated into songs especially regarding ‘New Age’ music. Once again, a very humble musician who wrote and sang with a lot of emotion.

Let me know how the Hare Krishna research goes. I have been studying this myself. It always interested me that George got involved with this in 1966 and kept his faith until his death. I know there is more to this then just shaving your head and wearing white robes and chanting.

As someone who has struggled with depression, this song has a very, very deep resonance, that second verse….God .. If that was Georges intention, I don’t know. It doesn’t really matter, it’s what I’ve taken away from it. That entire album is one I have cherished since I was a teenager.

Watch out now, take care, beware of thoughts that linger, winding up inside your head, the hopelessness around you, in the dead of night, beware of sadness, it can hit you, it can hurt you, make you sore, and what is more, that is not what you are here for.

*points to sig* It was only this year that I heard the album, and this song in particular hit me so hard I couldn’t listen to it for a month without crying. I’m past that now, but it still speaks to me, and I’ve been listening to it a lot over the past week for comfort and inspiration. That guitar riff gets me every time.

I love that song, but have only listened to it a handful of times. I, too, can relate and connect to that second verse. George wrote some truly beautiful music heart

Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

This is a beautiful song, one of my favorites by him. I don’t think I ever get tired of hearing it. It’s a very emotional song and really makes you think about what is important in life. I also really like ‘I Live For You’ That’s another one that can impact your emotions.

Listened to four outtakes of this; the basic track and then it builds with two guitar overdubs and a string overdub; and oh my friggly-dos!! The guitar playing is wonderful and the strings are beautiful.

I love the c.v. but the track when stripped is so much better.

Would love to see a stripped ‘All Things Must Pass ‘; something like what Yoko did with ‘Double Fantasy ‘ only better (not keen on that at all).

Couldn’t agree more!  I don’t really have a problem with Phil Spector’s production on ATMP (well, George’s vocals are kinda hard to hear sometimes), but I would love to see a more stripped down version.  I think Let It Down especially would really benefit, but there are a few songs where I’d probably end up preferring the original version (Wah-Wah , Isn’t It A Pity ).

Outtakes of ‘Let It Down ‘ circulate and again are the build-up of the track (sans all the heavy Spector overdubs, reverb etc) and they are fantastic; incredible to hear the song quite bare considering what we get on the album.

I can’t stand the album version of Let It Down a-hard-days-night-paul-3 The bonus track version is gorgeous, though, even if it’s not strictly the demo, as George did add another acoustic guitar and things.

It’s way too over the top musically but the lyrics are so good I still really like it.

Wah-Wah ‘ is another which is far too buried in instrumentation. Maybe that was meant so we get a headache as well.

Wah-Wah is a great song, in my opinion butchered by Spector. I would love to hear the guitar part and the harmonies in a more raw take.

Not to say Spector didn’t do a great job on most other songs on the album.

I just published a feature on this song.

https://www.beatlesbible.com/p…..-darkness/

One thing that occurred to me was that the Beatles were photographed by a pair of Weeping Blue Atlas Cedars during their final photo shoot at Tittenhurst. I wonder if that inspired the final verse, or if Harrison had the same trees at Friar Park (I wouldn’t be at all surprised).

“Watch out now, take care
Beware of greedy leaders
They take you where you should not go
While Weeping Atlas Cedars
They just want to grow, grow and grow

Just listened to Beware Of Darkness , specifically the isolated version on YouTube. Tell me I’m not going mad – is there a striking similarly to Watching Rainbows, because in my head I caught myself merging elements of the two tracks. Seem to be same key, similar pace, similar style.
