I’ll be curious if they’ll put the album on 2 discs with sides 1-3 on disc one and sides 4-6 on disc 2 with the apple jam in the LP order like the original cd, or if they’ll keep the 2001 tracklist.

Damn, I wish my headphones hadn’t chosen recently to break on me! a-hard-days-night-paul-10a-hard-days-night-paul-10a-hard-days-night-paul-10

I managed to resurrect my headphones to listen to this a-hard-days-night-paul-7 I have to hold them just so with one hand because one earpiece is sorta broke or else the right ear cuts out coz the broken left side wire is finicky and a-hard-days-night-ringo-14 but this song is worth it heart

I rather wish they hadn’t lowered the acoustic guitar track quite so much though…? Turning the treble up just a wee bit wouldn’t kill it, I think. I know it sounds warmer this way and it’s nice but the chinga was the best part of the old mix. It’s a but loud but the new one’s not loud enough imo… but eh it’s a small thing.

George’s vocal trill around 2:55 is a freakin’ revelation. derek-taylor_01_gif

Ran into this (I don’t know how I missed it but I did), and it’s the most astonishing job I’ve heard, outdoing anything Giles could muster. Augers well for the album, I hope EMI aren’t going to be idiots about this.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

A booter identified as MisterClaudel has been producing CDs containing the outtakes from most of the Beatle’s solo albums. These are links to the tracks on a site named Internet Archive, that is a little tidier than YouTube and makes it easy to compare the different versions of the songs. The album covers with track info, inserts, and CD reproductions are usually available in the JPEG section under Download Options. I can’t find much information about the producer and I’m not sure why they are allowed to operate in the open. They claim the CDs contain “Everything that happened in the studio” (a bit of hyperbole me thinks), but there are quite a few takes I have never heard before.

[Mod note: link led to pages where some officially released material can be downloaded and has therefore been removed]

Here is my ultimate redux.

My Sweet Lord

Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)

If Not For You

Wah-Wah

Let It Down

Awaiting On You All

What Is Life

Behind That Locked Door

Apple Scruffs

Run Of The Mill

Isn’t It A Pity

It’s Johnny’s Birthday

I was 10 when this was happening and my 10 year old self would have explained it like this:

“Mr Harrison there are too many sad songs and too many long things that don’t mean anything. It’s better with just these ones and it is a proper album length that way too. You can still use the same name for the record though, it still makes sense on it’s own. You can use some of the other songs later on if you still like them. I put It’s Johnny’s Birthday at the end to make it funny like The Beatles used to do sometimes.”

So sue me.

Unless Paul McCartney knocks on my door I am unlikely to be impressed.

Promo for the 50th anniversary set is building up. On the 7th a music journalist was sent a box full of plastic gnomes and a George figure. Pretty cute. There is also going to be an uber deluxe boxset costing $1000 apparently?

I’m not a big fan of it, it’s a lot of jarring noise.

Disc 2 of the demos is the same track listing as the ‘Beware of ABCKO‘ bootleg released years ago so it’s almost certainly going to be that. It may be similar to the Esher demos in the 50th ‘White Album ‘ set where there are enough differences to keep the collectors happy.

I actually don’t have an issue with the super limited edition box as we get all the music on the uber deluxe so it’s not the same as Paul’s where you have to pay £150 for a ton of shit to get 20 minutes of exclusive music. It’s also not the same as Apple where for years we got deluged with overpriced tat no one ever wanted whilst the unreleased music lay stuck in the vaults. If you want a tree from George’s garden that’s up to you and that’s what you’re paying for, plus the gnomes are meant to be really cute. If Apple want to give us the complete ‘WTB’ session tapes and at the same time release luxury limited edition overpriced Beatles frying oil, cucumber hats and a 20 piece set of brushes for only painting rice  then fine; as long as we don’t have to buy the pish to get the music then I’ll put up with it – tho the sarcastic comments may continue.

As for the release itself

Message from Dhani:

Since the 50th anniversary stereo mix release of the title track to my father’s legendary ‘All Things Must Pass ’ album in 2020, my dear pal Paul Hicks and I have continued to dig through mountains of tapes to restore and present the rest of this newly remixed and expanded edition of the album you now see and hear before you. Bringing greater sonic clarity to this record was always one of my father’s wishes and it was something we were working on together right up until he passed in 2001. Now, 20 years later, with the help of new technology and the extensive work of Paul Hicks and many others, we have realised this wish and present to you this very special 50th Anniversary release of perhaps his greatest work of art. Every wish will be fulfilled.

Love, Dhani

I went with the deluxe CD box. I can’t justify spending over 1,000 dollars on a box set. I will say one thing, though–I wish The Beatles would stop releasing deluxe box sets every 3 months.

Does anyone know which versions of the CD have the original Spector mix? I don’t know whether I own it.

The 30th anniversary (the one with the ””interesting”” update of My Sweet Lord on it) or the 2014 remaster are the available options.

It would be nice if the all bonus tracks from the 2000 remaster were somehow made available with this when the 50th anniversary is out. The ‘Run Of The Mill ‘ demo will be on the second demos disc but the others will be absent, ‘the ‘Beware Of Darkness ‘ demo had additional overdubs.
