This is hands down my favorite solo George song… and, frankly, I’m a little disappointed the group didn’t get to properly record it prior to their breakup (it was first introduced during the Get Back /Let It Be sessions). Thoughts?
I’m very glad it was never on a Beatles album. The LIB rehearsals had a focus on stripped down classic rock, and what makes Hear Me Lord so special on ATMP is the full spiritual orchestration. I love the way the piano licks accentuate the wall of sound, built with roaring guitars and belting backup singers.
I’m also struggling to think of a song John would have been into less aside from a few granny shit tunes. He and the band seemed rather unmoved when George performed it for them.

Oh lord. I much prefer the acoustic demo to the album version of Let It Down . The chorus section is just riddled with useless nonesense in the background. The initial drop to the M7 chord on the verse is breathtaking however.
The versions of Hear Me Lord that i’m thinking of are played by George every Now And Then on electric guitar with some lazy sounding accompaniment (minus the always nasty Billy Preston organ), and are rather unmoving. The demos of Let It Down are absolutely stunning.
Bonus trivia, aside from Let It Down and Hear Me Lord , what are the other two All Things Must Pass songs played during the Let It Be rehearsals?

I’m very glad it was never on a Beatles album.
Yes, Let It Be was the wrong album for “Let It Down ” (as well as most other songs introduced during those sessions that didn’t make the final album); I was thinking more along the lines if the group had hypothetically stayed together for one more year, this would be one of the songs they recorded for that last album… and George Martin would be at the helm instead of Phil “Mr. Echo” Spector. 
As for “Hear Me Lord ,” I like that one as well, but I’d have preferred to keep overt religious themes out of the group’s repertoire.

Offline I know this thread hasn’t been added to in a while but I have to agree with those in favour of the acoustic version on this one. I always use this as the main example of how Spector muddied some achingly beautiful Harrison songs (in my opinion). That’s my main complaint about ATMP as much as I love it as a record.
I just love the lead guitar (I think it really highlights George’s natural intuition) and how he absolutely nails the vocals with that slightly raw tinge. I love that little ‘wooo’ after ‘Hiding it all behind everything I see’ and the way he sings ‘While you look so sweetly and divine’. Also the fairly low-key synth strings add such a haunting feel to it. It’s one of my all-time favourite of his.

Offline I really like Spector’s production on this one, it doesn’t feel as saturated or heavy as others (eg ‘Wah Wah ’).
I heard this for the first time in months a few days ago and it was awesome. The lyrics are fantastic (”looking like I don’t care but I do. I do.”, “I see your eyes are busy kissing mine”) and his expressed annoyance, surprise and bemusement at folk looking at him is great to hear as it must have been a regular experience (”wondering what it is they’re expecting to see, should someone be looking at me!?”).

Offline The drop into the Maj7 section is nice. Hearing the acoustic version, the full band does such a nice job changing feels coming out of the chorus. Nice organ work, drum playing, and of course excellent slide work from the man himself.
