Offline It would create 18 broken links. Unfortunately, broken links hurt the BB’s internet rating. So I think we better leave it where it is. Perhaps we could lock that thread and create an Autograph thread in Y&T and copy over those 18 posts. What do you think, @Zig and @meanmistermustard?
I’ll gladly do the work if the other mods and forumpudlians think it is a good idea.

Offline I’m happy to copy it over as would prefer to not create a number of links that go nowhere.

Ron Nasty and I just had a good email exchange. If no mods are online and someone makes a thread that already has an existing thread on the topic, to get people to stop posting in the new thread, the only way may be to ask people in that thread to post in the original thread.
Those of you who are regulars, maybe if you would copy/”quote” the post that starts a new thread into the existing thread and respond to the person in the existing thread, that would help while mods aren’t around. That would make the pre-existing thread be in the unread posts list so maybe it would get people going in the proper direction until a mod can come in and evaluate the situation and lock/redirect as needed.
Thoughts?

Offline That was the original idea, but a thread could grow to 59 posts* before a mod sees the @ notification or the thread. We do have sleep, brush our teeth, and work at our paying jobs sometimes.
*more likely to be 4 or 5 but you never know.

Offline I think the important thing is never to start a conversation in a newly created thread that you know there is already a thread for. Otherwise you are encouraging that discussion to take off, which makes it harder to deal with later.
We know there are often many hours when mods are not around. We should help them by, when we see a duplicate thread being created, not offering any response but to direct them to the existing thread and responding there.

Offline The thread was originally created to discuss the influence of The Beatles on The Monkees, and specifically Beatles songs that may have influenced Monkees songs. So, you go back to the beginning of the thread, it was in the right place to begin with as the discussion was Beatles/Monkees. As the thread has progressed though, it’s turned into a general Monkees thread. Would probably involve breaking too many links to move it now, but a mod may disagree.

Offline Same kinda thing happened to the ‘Which of the Beatles’ children is your favorite?’ thread where a more specific topic was derailed into a more general topic about the Beatles kids until it was eventually folded into the general topic about the Beatles kids.
Wonder why that happens. The Monkees thread name does make it seem general though.
