Taken aback, that's what. She was often at a loss for words around George, her favorite. But this time she knew exactly what she wanted to say. And yet...she immediately swallowed the sarcastic remark, instead finding herself offering tea. "Can't have a biscuit without tea...",  offering her "T pot" to George. The T pot: A regular clay teapot painted almost completely white save a black letter T, the minor artwork had taken her the better part of yesterday afternoon; she had hoped to get 45 quid for it so she could surprise John with a new wah pedal for a gift. (The item would, in fact, remain unsold until 1983, when it fetched thousands at auction.)

George looked up, surprised, a few biscuit poem crumbs falling on his jeans; he swept at them absently onto the floor, discarded syllables. Seeing the look in her eye, part earnest, part anxious, he scrabbled around, coming up with an empty tea cup from his guitar case. "Yeah, wouldn't mind a top up. Thanks. Thanks Yok'." Wordlessly, even for her, Yoko upended the pot into the proffered cup, and George watched in confusion,  then exasperation, then finally grudging amusement, and, even more finally, utter fascination as hundreds of Scrabble "T" tiles filled the cup and spilled onto the floor. New words were creating themselves where the tiles met the fractured-poem crumbs. CLATL. ZUYTT. STTRUM!

"Can't have a biscuit without T. It's very sad, like a man without a woman." Yoko left the room without looking back, leaving George to pick up the tiles, or leave them, or shove them up his arse. She hoped George didn't hear her giggle to herself as she left.

George watched her walk out, giving an oddly strangled sounding cough before vanishing to the control room. He would remember that little cough hours later as he sat down in his easy chair, guitar in hand, singing and writing and strumming. "I won't forget you my little Apple Struffs,"  STRUM STRUM STRUM "There's so much they don't know 'bout Apple Struffs." Strum.

Sing the following words:

"They were some working boys

North of England way

Then they went on Ed Sullivan

In the USA..."

You get the rest.
