Uh…

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Old article but contains a slideshow of little-seen photos by Mike Mitchell from ’64.

I found this on Instagram and it made me smile. Paul couldn’t be any more correct.

It cracks me up someone got them to just stand there and face a wall for this photo.

That’s nothing compared to some of the truly wacko and bizarre pictures they were made to pose for in those early years!

There’s the butcher cover, or course, but the prize for me still goes to the one with Paul in the cat suit.

WogBlog linked to a Liverpool Echo article on the first Ed Sullivan appearance with two great photo galleries from various years, but mostly ’64.

Looking through these pictures made me think of two things. I had been wondering if The Beatles attracted attention from non-white Americans. Looks like American girls from many ethnic backgrounds fell for the lads from Liverpool.

Also, at the Shea Stadium concert, you see some parents with their children. I guess those were the cool parents. No generation gap problem in those families. The mom and daughters dressed alike in this picture are cute.

I would think given their insistence that they only play to integrated arenas that they must have known their appeal extended to Americans of color.

Ahhh Girl, just a few days after we were talking about it, CBS posts an interview snippet between Larry Kane and Paul about playing in integrated venues.

Cool.

And, I got Kane’s book for Christmas. I need to get into it, but I’m working my way through Tune In right now.

I think those parents just brought their kids to the concert to make their kid happy (and supervision as well), not that they actually like the music; however, I do suppose a few may have like the music. Why do you think you see dads at One Direction concerts? I certainly don’t think its because they like the music, but because they are making their kid happy.

I can read that mom’s mind. a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

“Yeah, honey, I made these two kids with you, and we’ll grow old and gray together, but DAMN, that one on the stage named Paul McCartney is fine! You gotta let me have this one fantasy.”

Ugh, I see the name Bob Spitz on it…author of one of the worst bios on the Beatles ever, and a real dick to boot. That alone puts me off reading it.
