It was EMI House on Manchester Square, @SgtPeppersBulldog, the company’s business headquarters, no studios just offices. EMI Studios were on a street called Abbey Road in St. John’s Wood.

This photo of John was recently given to me by a friend (the original photo is very orange, so I changed it to black and white) and it looks like John tuning his guitar backstage somewhere and probably 1963. I was looking through the images in your gallery from 1963 and it could be from the Big Night Out (1st Sept 1963), Ready Steady Go (4th Oct 1963), NME All Star concert (21st April 1963) or Mersey Sound BBC (27th August 1963) as he is wearing the same suit and playing the same Rickenbacker guitar.
I thought I would post it here just in case anyone knows where it might have been, and for you to add to your gallery. Enjoy.

Some pics of The Beatles and / or Astrid Kirchherr in Tenerife, Canary Islands, 1963 while John and Brian were vacationing in Spain.
Were Paul, George and Ringo being very sensible and wearing long sleeved (fairly formal) shirts in the sun, to stop themselves burning … I’m sure there was probably only a Factor 2 suntan lotion/cream in those days … or did they not pack any Tshirts?! 🙂
Fab photos though!
George looks really cool in the second pic!

Paul, Ringo and George got very badly burnt in the sun, it’s documented in the ‘Anthology’ book.
PAUL: We went out there and stayed there for a bit, but we got worried because nobody knew us in the Canaries and we were a bit put off: ‘You know us? The Beatles?’ And they were saying, ‘No, no… don’t know you.’
I got terrible sunburn: that British tan that hurts so much later. That gave me quite an uncomfortable time. And I got caught in a riptide. I was in the sea and thought, ‘Now I’ll swim back in,’ but I realised I wasn’t getting anywhere. In fact, I was getting further away.GEORGE: I remember black beaches. We stayed in the sun too long and got incredibly sunburnt; typical british. Ringo and I both had sunstroke the first or second day and I remember shivering all night.

When Brian told the boys they had to start wearing suits, he meant both on and off stage.
