I saw that. It was a great movie, and just what we were all hoping for.
Definitely.

I finally watched the bonus disc. If you hit play all, it’s basically another documentary the same length as the feature film.
So, if you enjoyed the film, you might enjoy this. More Beatles clips, five uninterrupted performances, more Whoopi and Sigourney, more aging fangirls reminiscing, and more bespectacled, self-important boomer geezers in their libraries spouting nonsense and theories.
One impression I came away with is that there are probably a lot of films sitting in a vault somewhere that could be released in a nice box set, rather than trotted out in bits every ten years to be spoken over by experts.

If you’re a cynical fan and a critic of Apple, don’t buy it. However, the feature film itself is very good. It is a very good documentary with a strong impact, and gives the impression of what it must have been like seeing The Beatles live.
Just don’t expect a holy grail of unreleased footage.

A little off topic I know, but if they were able to make the Hollywood Bowl concert sound so good and the video from this movie look good, then why don’t they concentrate on completing a quality Concert video such as Shea or the ’66 Tokyo concert. Visibly they look very good, but need to work on the sound…
Come on Apple….

Finally watched it. Whoopie’s first clip made my ears bleed a little, but I got through it okay.
Personally, for the fan’s point of view, I would have rather seen unknown people that experienced the Beatlemania instead of famous people.

I just got to watch this tonight as it was on TV, my mom saw it in the newspaper and told me.
Really I’m quite pleased with it and I thought it was pretty well made and all. And as always, when it has the Beatles in it it’s usually great just because of that. The worst thing was my siblings making fun of me for being so into it I think.

This is a great movie with one critical flaw, the quality of some of the colorization is utter
I mean look at some of them, it’s like they were too lazy to do a decent job. Here’s an example, not just is the colorization piss poor but they also forgot to colorize the back of Paul’s Hofner bass.
There are great examples of colorization, such as All You Need Is Love and classic Looney Tunes shorts.
The point is that if you don’t want to take the time to do a quality colorization of the footage, keep it in black and white.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, and my only “spoilers” so far are this thread. I wasn’t expecting learn anything new, but like most of you I was expecting lots of snippets of home movies (of varying quality). From what I’m reading, it’s not to be found! I thought that was the whole point of the project! Man, ain’t that a slap in the face? Maybe the motivation in seeking all the fan footage was to send it down the Apple Memory Hole where only a select few will ever have access to it.
I’ve had the deluxe Blu-ray in my Amazon cart for weeks and was getting ready to pull the trigger, but now I think I will just pass, especially since Shea Stadium isn’t included. No offense to Whoopi (or anyone else), but I really don’t see why she belongs in a Beatles documentary.
Sorry to pre-complain about something I haven’t even seen! I know I will enjoy it, but it just doesn’t sound like it’s worth owning or watching more than once or twice. Guess I’ll stick with my oh-so-delicious 1+ Blu-rays…

I watched EDAW last weekend and really enjoyed it! However, I am glad that I didn’t buy it since I doubt that I would watch it more than a few times. Like many of the comments here have suggested, it did overall seem like “Anthology Lite“. The pace of the movie seemed rather staggered as well, moving forwards in time, backtracking, forward again (I guess to make it a bit less cut and dry).
I was worried that the “talking heads” would have too much screen time, but I didn’t find that true at all. In fact, I feel a bit guilty about my Whoopi remark above (before watching) – I really enjoyed what she had to say! Especially in light of the disheartening (disgusting, actually) news lately about Charlottesville, Trump etc… It was good to hear some black voices.
I particularly enjoyed watching the boys do I Saw Her Standing There (the ’64 colorized clip from Washington DC, I believe). At the break, to see Ringo really going to town …. damn, it gave me chills! I’ve always loved Ringo but that was the first time he has really blown me away. Wow!
The movie wasn’t without faults. I think maybe a better title would have simply been “Beatlemania.” That’s what the movie seemed to really be about, particularly Beatlemania in the U.S. Though it’s subtitled “The Touring Years”, we didn’t really see a lot of them touring! It seemed to mostly focus on what we already saw in Anthology, with each early album being discussed in turn. I remember there were several minutes devoted to audio from studio banter. Sure, it was nice to hear but why include that if it’s about the Beatles’ touring?
I wasn’t around to enjoy the Beatles while they were together, but EDAW did a great job of relaying the excitement of those early days – something mankind may not ever see again on that scale.

That would be the American TV debut…CTV in Canada premiered it last year on November 8 (an otherwise unfortunate day 🙁 )

My wife is kinda forced to be a Beatles fan while she is around me. She has picked up and played Please Please Me on her own and she always picks that album now when we are in the car driving somewhere and listening to The Beatles. This film is good for her and those fans that like them but are not devoted to them like a lot of us are. She has never seen the Anthology and probably never will for that matter. Any info she has on the Beatles is from me and this movie does a much better job conveying the excitement that was around The Fab Four as they toured the world. I enjoy it and I own it.

Zag & I recorded it from TV and I’ve watched it a few times since. I like it better now that the initial disappointment has subsided. To clarify, my disappointment was due to the fact I assumed we were going to get a boatload of rarely seen concert footage. I’m a big fan of Ron Howard, so maybe that is another reason why my expectations were so lofty.
Anyway, in a vacuum, this is a very good documentary. I really enjoy watching it and will most likely buy it someday when I go on a Beatley Buying Binge on Amazon.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.
