Watching this again as ill and it means I don’t have to suffer normal TV when the football is on.
Definitely things being noticed that I didn’t last time and it seems to go by faster this time, maybe less conscious of the duration of the episodes. By far the greatest thrill of the entire escapade is George returning, it’s so pleasing to read of him returning to Twickenham to see Glyn on the 15th and then see him at Apple – makes me wonder if there could have been a reunion in the 70’s if three had been wanting and had gone to the other.
And my brain still gets a pleasure and exclamation jolt when the realisation hits of John, Paul, George and Ringo being together on the screen, in whatever combination.

Was watching the second part the other day. Love when the play Madman. Love the rawnes of the arrangement. It could have been a very cool Lennonesque song a la Glass Onion , or something like that.

At the end of the second disc after getting the Blu Ray box set for Xmas. The bit that I sat up at was Billy Preston arriving at Apple. The documentary states he just dropped by to say hello having been in England on some TV promotion work having known them since Hamburg days. This totally contradicts that George asked for him as a condition of coming back which has always been accepted knowledge. Very much enjoying it, although the real shame is that almost all the songs so far are fragmentary, there’ s hardly anything complete, and we know there were plenty of tracks with a complete run through, which would be great for an extended version if it ever emerges. One of the few seemingly complete tracks (over the end titles) is “The Palace of the King of the Birds”, though can’t recall a version with both keyboard and piano – is this a hybrid? The highlight of the full unexpurgated rooftop concert is yet to come, and that’s where the real interest lies for me.

Finally found time to watch the third disc uninterrupted. Let me say that I feel if not the greatest technical live performance ever it’s the No.1 iconic performance to me, ahead of even Queen at Live Aid. Knowing it from Let It Be when what was edited to look largely like a totally miserable and claustrophobic experience I’ve always thought as they finally emerge on the roof it’s like a weight lifted and completely joyous. To finally see the full concert from multiple angles I’m not ashamed to say it overpowered me – I wept tears of joy throughout. If I had one complaint it’s that I could have done without the vox pops again, just showing the street scenes and the police arriving in silence would have set the context. If I had a second complaint it’s that those cameras aren’t individually selectable. Maybe when/if an extended box featuring full performances throughout where available will allow upgrade. This performance is worth the cost of the box alone IMO. Full of envy for those people on neighbouring roofs – if I had a time machine that would be first choice destination.

I got sent the film this morning and am now halfway through episode one. It’s interesting and im definitely learning lots about the band, the songwriting process, ect. Its sad though because everything about it seems so disconnected. Ive learned a lot about being a good leader from Paul. He handles conflict very well. He solves problems instead of arguing and i could definitely input that into my life. Thank you paul. Sometimes i want to cry while watching it because… well i really dont know. i feel like i am taking this too deep, i am not crazy i am just passionate about my favourite band
im so tired that why this post is so poorly written.

Am I remembering correctly? I don’t think we see Paul performing Let It Be . We hear him in the background. We only really hear the song as the credits are rolling at the end.
In the original movie, we see Paul sitting at the piano and playing it. (Of course, the movie IS called Let It Be .)
P Jackson said he didn’t want to use ANY of the clips used by M Lindsay-Hogg in his movie. Did P Jackson go too far?

Well, we do hear and see several partial rehearsals and performances of “Let It Be ” throughout the eight hours of Get Back , even if no full complete takes are presented. (And Jackson did say that he would’ve liked to not reuse any footage from ML-H’s film, but he recognized that was an unrealistic goal if he wanted “Get Back ” to tell its story properly.)
Me, I’m OK with not seeing the January 31 master-take performances in full again, since they did already appear in ML-H’s film, and they weren’t even all terribly exciting visually, anyways. (Plus it’s always irked me how Paul regularly looks directly into the camera lens during “Let It Be ” and “Long Winding Road” Something about his unsmiling seriousness, combined with the solemnity of those two songs, and the closeups of Paul seemingly looking right at me…I dunno, I just find those performances uncomfortable to watch, for whatever reason. (Even though I’m still glad they’re on film, and wouldn’t want them to be unavailable to view; I do hope the plan to reissue the LIB film isn’t forgotten about.)
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I have a feeling Apple certainly wants to do the remaster and reissue of the original film, but there might be some issues to work out with Disney. I imagine that also includes the matter of Jackson’s director’s cut. If Disney is not interested in doing that, theoretically, Apple could renegotiate the deal and buy out physical home video rights from Disney to issue the 17-hour cut on Blu-ray, while leaving Disney the sole distributor of the 8-hour cut to remain on Disney+.
At this point, if Now And Then is really going to be the new “final” Beatles song released thanks to Paul’s employing machine learning to achieve what he always wanted, then this means that Jackson’s full cut isn’t quite dead, and Apple could have sufficient bargaining power.
