Saw the ‘Rooftop Concert’ in the cinema earlier today and obviously watching the Beatles on the big screen is always a fantastic experience. I’ve only seen the documentary once
Question to everyone who’s seen the IMAX special. Is it different than the Disney special? I’m talking just the Rooftop performance.

Bizarrely it gave the impression the more acoustic/softer numbers were recorded later on the same day when it was done the following day. But that’s minor. All four were having a blast but I recognised Ringo beating the living hell out of his drums more this time around, and Jimmy the doorman (if that’s his position) made it to the roof at the end. Plus the delight all four had at seeing the police had turned up is so cool; John was having a serious WTF moment when his amp got turned off, George just turned it back on.
I felt sorry for Mal Evans in that scene. On the one hand, he had the cops threatening to arrest him and to turn it off. On the other, he has to face George’s wrath, George was really yelling at him lol.
As for the softer numbers, I remember in Get Back , they were wanting to go ahead and record the rest of the numbers. But it turns out that wasn’t practical, because the equipment was up on the roof, and it all had to be brought back down and set up again.

27th May is the estimated date in the official store. I’d take that with a pinch of salt though. If it goes beyond this date I’m expecting there to be announcements/leaks that Peter Jackson is re-editing and extending the release.

Haha, he should’ve said “I work for them, not you! Turn it off yourself.”
Also, it sounds to me like George may have actually turned the volume UP a bit after switching it back on?

Well, I FINALLY got around to watching the Get Back documentary and loved it. I watched it over the course of a week with episode 3 all in one sitting. Episode 1 was very sad. It seemed they had very few ideas and most came from Paul. They also had to be businessmen as well as musicians. At the end of 1 when George walked out, the remaining 3 seemed lost and were going crazy with absolutely no focus. It really looked as if it was all over.
Once Billy showed up and George came back, they regained their focus and the creative juices started flowing.
Not counting the rooftop concert, one of the highlights was when they seemed down because all of the plans for doing a live performance were not coming to fruition. I believe it was Lindsay-Hogg who squatted down before Paul and suggested the rooftop and Paul’s eyes lit up. I believe George “settled” on the rooftop.
I will re-watch it soon as there was so much to digest. If I had to give titles to each episode, it would be: 1-Lost, 2-Hope, 3-Triumph.

I’d agree with that. I think it probably came from a place of compromise in that the others were more up for it along with giving the project a better more convenient finish than the other suggested idea and it would be done. He was probably very apprehensive beforehand so it was great to see how much he came to enjoy it whilst playing.
I wonder if the enjoyment he felt again was what led George to playing live later in the year, hidden in the background well out of the way and not being the focus of attention.

I’m glad it’s getting official recognition – it deserves it. The footage is some of the best and most important Beatles content ever.

That bit in Episode 2 where John’s raving about Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac on the telly the previous night? Well, later in the broadcast, you can spot a F.Mac 45 atop a table, and a little freeze-framing reveals that it’s “Need Your Love So Bad”, so I’m wondering if this is the video clip that John had seen:
He was briefly infatuated enough with the Mac to use “Albatross” as inspiration for “Sun King “, of course.

While searching the internet for a documentary on the Rishikesh trip, I found an HQ copy of Get Back on a free streaming service in Hungary. The site can be found at https://videa.hu/ (enter Get Back in the search screen).
@Ron Nasty – Is this the proper way to provide this information (link to the site but not directly to the content?)

…and the original version of that one was done by Little Willie John (originator of “Leave My Kitten Alone “) a decade earlier, so it’s conceivable that John & co were familiar with the song already.
