Ok, so my dvr is set to record anything with the usual names. In January it recorded a “Crimes of the Century” episode about what you’re guessing.  I’d just like to warn people – it’s horrible to (try to) watch.  I’m not so sure being informed about something is always a good thing. I made it 37 minutes in before I was in such tears that I had to step away.  Not the content – the eyes. Everyone they interviewed save one had eyes full of sadness about the event. I’ve got ...and the Plastic Ono Band (edit: now Mind Games ) on as retribution…or perhaps masochism. a-hard-days-night-john-6heart

Half of what I say is meaningless...

I feel good in a special way, I'm in love and it's a sunny day

From The Examiner:

We’re happy to announce that the “Things We Said Today ” radio show your Beatles Examiner co-hosts with Allan Kozinn and Al Sussman of Beatlefan and Ken Michaels, host of “Every Little Thing ,” will debut on Alan Haber’s Pure Pop Radio at 9 p.m. ET March 24. The show will run every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET, programmer Alan Haber says.

“I couldn’t be more proud to bring ‘Things We Said Today ‘ to Pure Pop Radio,” co-host Ken Michaels said. “This is an internet music channel that every Beatles fan should be aware of. If you love music that has the hallmarks of what the Beatles have given us – the best in songwriting, and melodic pop/rock, Haber mixes the classics with lesser-known material from the 60’s on up, and makes you aware of so much strong music that many of us have missed.” Ken’s show “Every Little Thing ” also airs on Pure Pop Radio at 9 p.m. ET Mondays.

In addition to its slot at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on Pure Pop Radio, you can also find “Things We Said Today ” at noon ET Saturdays and noon and midnight ET Sundays on Fab4Radio, which are the first airings of the latest shows and online at Podbean, iTunes and on YouTube.

From the Examiner:

Ringo Starr announced on his Twitter account @ringostarrmusic March 26 that he’ll do a Twitter Q&A online with Billboard magazine and writer David Wild at 12:45 p.m. PT March 31 to promote his new album, “Postcards From Paradise,” which comes out on that day. “Get your questions ready!,” he wrote. Hash tag for the question is #AskRingo.

The Beatle also will make two upcoming appearances on U.S. TV. He’ll appear on “Ellen” on Tuesday, the day of the album’s release, and on “Conan” on April 1. Both shows, by the way, are taped on the Warner Bros. lot in Hollywood.

More at the link.

‘The Beatles: From Liverpool to San Francisco’ is awful. Worth paying for Sky Arts just to say you didn’t watch it.

Hello!

“Vedi chi erano i Beatles”

Very entertaining programme on Italian TV last night, on RaiTre channel marking the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ concerts in Italy.

Lots of Italian chatting of course – various celebrities and also normal folk remembering the concerts, with some unseen footage and the occasional cover band (mostly very good!).

Link here where I think you can also see the whole show: http://www.vedichieranoibeatle…..451bf.html

Interesting story from former model and singer/actress Amanda Lear, also erstwhile wife to Salvador Dalì – she tells of how Yoko Ono wrote to Dalì asking for a whisker from his famous moustache, saying she would pay him for it. Dalì and Lear, fearing that the ‘witch’ was going to work some kind of spell, sent her a blade of grass instead (looking like a ‘tache whisker), suitably gift-wrapped, for which Yoko paid several thousand dollars. True story!

For whoever has the channel ‘That’ll Be The Day’, which stars Ringo and David Essex, is on True Movies 1 (sky channel 321) at 11pm on Saturday night (18th July) in the UK (and possibly elsewhere). No doubt it will be subject to further screenings.

BBC Radio 2 to Feature Cultural Icons this Autumn

The Beatley part of the article.

A programme that explores a truly poignant time in history with another great icon this autumn is John Lennon ’s Last Day (Thursday 8 October, 10-11pm), performed by Ian Hart (Boardwalk Empire, Harry Potter as Professor Quirinus Quirrell). This single voice, dramatic monologue sits between drama and documentary and is an utterly compelling story of John Lennon ’s last day. On Monday, 8 December 1980, one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century was shot dead in New York City. Lennon would have turned 75 on 9 October 2015, but his life was cut tragically short. This docu-drama, written by first-time radio
writer and partially sighted Stephen Kennedy from Dublin, charts the events of that infamous day.

Hart guides us through the events of that day in forensic detail and his narration is woven together with the voice of Lennon himself – both from archive recordings and from the music that made him a legend.Liverpool actor Ian Hart, who has played Lennon on three separate occasions, says: “There will always be interest and intrigue into every part of his life, and now we take a sensitive look at the incomprehensible day when he was tragically taken from this world too soon.

”Writer Stephen Kennedy says: “I’m delighted to have my first radio drama commissioned by BBC Radio 2 and ecstatic to have Ian Hart performing in it. In my opinion, no actor has ever captured John Lennon ’s character better than Ian did in the film Backbeat. He has extraordinary talent.”

A few Beatles related related programmes are on BBC4 on Friday 18th September and they all should be available to view on the BBC iplayer shortly after they have been broadcast. Those not in the UK may find they cannot watch them so links for the latter two are in the spoilers.

I only remembered this today, obviously too late. Was it any good?

I also love how Ian Hart gets nearly every single John Lennon role in anything be it tv or film. I wonder does he even have to audition for a John-part anymore or does he just get them automatically?

It’s available to listen to here. I’m going whacking on the headphones and listening to it now because I’ve procrastinated and not done out notes for some people and I need to get them started tonight and the radio is fun to listen to.

Some other radio links:

John Lennon Verbatim: A soundscape incorporating rarely heard archive interviews, poetry readings, studio outtakes and alternative recordings of some of his most acclaimed compositions.

John Lennon The New York Years; Episode 1 and Episode 2

Susan Sarandon explores the major moments of John’s life that occurred in the city he called home from the early 70s, when he and Yoko moved there following the break up of The Beatles, until his death on 8 December 1980. Featuring input from friends and family, who lived and worked with Lennon during his New York years, this programme highlights the career defining moments that were influenced by the Big Apple.

Lennon: The Wenner Tapes: An in-depth portrait of John Lennon , told through the audio of Jann Wenner’s seminal 1970 New York interview with Lennon for Rolling Stone magazine
