I'm only interested in the first few minutes, footage of some old Beatles performance.

What year was this?

Where are they playing this? (looks like a club or something, or a TV show).

Is there a better video than this one of this same concert?   One that doesn't have an annoying voice-over narration by a robotic "Paul is Dead" person?

(Also, I'd like to know what song they are playing, but the music is muted here).

Thanks...

It should be noted that the Sullivan appearance is technically their first, filmed on the afternoon of the 9 February, before their live début that evening, and held for broadcast until the 23rd.

Sorry Ron Nasty, I meant to specify that I wanted to know about the second (or 3rd) performance in that video; essentially the one that looks the latest, which seems to me to be different from the Sullivan one. For one thing, they look slightly older, almost at the point of Rubber Soul or Revolver appearance. It seems that video shows a montage of 2 or 3 different performances, one after the other?

As said in my reply it's the Circus Krone, Germany on the 24th January 1966 (#2 and #3 are the same performances so no idea why they are split).

I didn't feel @meanmistermustard's reply needed much added to it, @Pineapple Records; just the clarification that the Sullivan performance was from the pre-taped third show, making the date on the video the broadcast date rather than the recording date.

As he correctly identified, the remaining footage is from their appearance at the Circus-Krone-Bau in Munich, (West) Germany on 24 June 1966 (Oops! Seems someone typo'd the date above a-hard-days-night-george-10).

It is the second of two performances (5pm and 9pm) at the venue that day, and was filmed by the German ZDF network for broadcast as Die Beatles (The Beatles) on 5 July. The video mmm posted includes all of The Beatles footage that was included in the special (interesting to note that the description of the video on YT are lifted directly from Joe's article in the history pages). The five songs cut from their 11-song set have never emerged.

Here is an enhanced version of the TV special - which includes some of the support acts (the missing 5 songs are edited in with the use of photo montages and audio from an audience tape recorded the next day at the Grugahalle, Essen, to create a full show):

The Beatles set was:

Rock And Roll Music
She's A Woman *
If I Needed Someone *
Day Tripper *
Baby's In Black
I Feel Fine
Yesterday
I Wanna Be Your Man *
Nowhere Man
Paperback Writer *
I'm Down

* Grugahalle audience tape

Thanks mmm, for some reason before I hadn't seen your post, I only saw Ron Nasty's.

Thanks again to Ron Nasty and mmm -- all enormously useful.  Interesting that last still photo from Ron Nasy shows a bank of sound engineers directly behind the Beatles as they are performing, all quite "straight" looking professionals; it's amusing.

If you're referring to the men in white shirts and black ties, @Pineapple Records, The Beatles were playing "in the round" (part of the audience was behind the group), meaning they're far more likely to be security than sound engineers.

Ah right -- I mistook those amps for a bank of sound engineer panels. I recall an early interview (1968?) where Paul and John refer to how much security they need, not only guards but also having to be transported in vans etc
