Watched this today and nothings changed. The songs are great (tho would have preferred countryside footage instead of the coloured skies with Flying), the filler is still pretty garbage (the sergeant scene, Jessie and Bloodvessel on the beach), the stripper scene remains creepy and uncomfortable (even tho Death Cab For Cutie is a good song). Ringo is the star, John and Little Nicola a standout scene.Interesting to actually be able to see that they are miming to an early take/mix of Your Mother Should Know (more than likely the acetate that got bootlegged years ago), you can tell by
.
The instrumental versions of She Loves You and All My Loving are so sweet.
You've summed up the way I see this film perfectly meanmistermustard. I must have seen A Hard Day's Night and Help thousands of times since I first watched them as a child. I got Magical Mystery Tour on video at the age of 14 and have probably only watched it about 10 times (not a lot for a self confessed Beatlemaniac!) Although I did buy the DVD last year and made my Mum and nieces watch it with me. One niece hated it the other thought it was brilliant! I felt the need the stand in front of the TV when the stripper scene was on though (she's only 7!) I agree, that part is very creepy and uncomfortable. Actually a lot of the film has a slightly creepy vibe!

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Thanks! I had the time tonight so I went through all of my "Likes" on Tumblr, which is a ridiculous amount... but that's okay because there is a lot of Paul.

No idea if this has appeared here before.
In 'Michael Palin's Diaries 1969 - 1970 The Monty Python Years' there is an entry for the 10th January 1975 when, after a private screening at Apple's temporary headquarters in St James' (there were plans for MMT to support Life of Brian in the cinema's and this was the first time they had seen it since it initial airing in 1967), he wrote his thoughts on the film as such:
"Unfortunately it was not just an unjustly underrated work. There are some poor and rather messy sequences, it's very obvious when the group is miming to playback and there's a cutesie Top of The Pops-type look at Paul during 'Fool on the Hill', which is tacky and dated. However, it is extraordinary still, it is far too impressionistic and odd to be just outdated and many sequences are very successful. It's also quite long - nearly an hour, but all in all we were pleased. It will have great curiosity value and should be complimentary to the Python film because much of it looks like familiar Python territory."
"I told you everything I could about me, Told you everything I could" ('Before Believing' - Emmylou Harris)
"Don't make your love suffer insecurities; Trade the baggage of 'self' to set another one free" ('Paper Skin' - Kendall Payne)

I actually like it. I think if you watch it not as a movie, but just as something that's meant to be surreal and pointless, it's quite a fun movieSounds like a plan!
My bluray is on the way from Amazon UK as we write - can't wait.
Just got around to watching this for the first time ever and really enjoyed it. Then again, it was a superbly restored bluray version, up on the projector, with a great dts soundtrack - so far from black and white on a tiny tinny telly. I think it has aged rather well - and good work the restoration team. The 'extras' on the disc are also quite good.
It's kind of interesting that on "Anthology' Paul was claiming it was not his baby, and on the bluray he is taking as much credit as he can get, a sign that the whole thing is viewed a bit more positively these days.
