Yeah the argument doesn’t seem that serious in context does it ? It does underline the musical differences between the 2 men and how they like to work though. All bands have their own vocabulary as well in trying to get things to work musically in a pressured environment like that. ‘lets unconfuse it then confuse it’ LOL.
George is trying to point out his frustration with the lack of freedom and time that he gets on Pauls songs and Paul is frankly being a bit of a dick bringing up the ‘Hey Jude ‘ spat to try and undermine him.
I can see what Pauls trying to do, ie trying to keep the project moving forward but you just feel too much had gone down in the past by this stage…. Hence Georges “you don’t annoy me anymore”…… I mean Ouch or what ? The mention of ‘maxwells silver hammer’ ( which prompts a frustrated guitar burst from Lennon hahaha) just seems like another passive aggressive reference to Pauls endless ability of running a song into the ground.
Note also at the 5 minute mark George nails the correct feel for the song totally and Paul is too busy pissing about with Lennon to take notice…..
Overall I’ve always felt ‘get back’ was a really good idea but the timing and conditions were all wrong.

To try and see Paul’s point of view, he was having difficulty conveying his musical idea to George. George was likely uninterested, and Paul was obviously excited about developing the part his own song with George. They just weren’t on the same brainwave, and I don’t believe Paul was about to just let it go, and George got fed up.
It is somewhat similar to a friend who I record music with, who’s approach differs greatly from mine, as he wants to coordinate loops samples and effects and I just want to play. Sometimes I feel like George where I just say, “ok I’ll play what you want for your sample or I won’t play anything at all”. Meanwhile Im stockpiling original songs to use for my own releases.

I don’t think George wasn’t interested in the song its just that the basic problem is that the song is clearly a duet and didn’t really have much for George to contribute to at this stage. He should have just worked a solo or a part later on or Paul could have supplied him one to play. They badly missed having George Martin there just to be able to guide them, and say ‘George sit this one out and you can come back to it later’. Instead Paul re-opened old wounds by bringing up the ‘Hey Jude ‘ stuff again – In other words his way or the highway – and they lost George instead.
I think also at this point Paul realises he’s bitten off more than he can chew here and panics a bit. He realises he’s going to have to be Musical Director, write and arrange most of the songs (John has already admitted he is out of inspiration) ,co-ordinate the rehearsals, and deliver something coherent by the band for a film.
It was always asking a lot of a band that had been a studio based act for years to do a project like this only a few weeks after the ‘White Album ‘ sessions. Paul of course knew he had to act quick to try and save the group but in the end he just put himself under too much pressure. It’s no wonder twickenham was a disaster.

Yep. Paul is better off commanding a group of session musicians like in Ram , or the turnstile of guitarists and drummer to cylce through Wings aside from the loyal Denny and Linda, or just playing the parts himself. Having to worry about what George or John is supposed to play was never a part of his job description. Ringo of course is steady as usual.
