I just realised that Roy Kinnear, who played the chubby scientist in this, was in the original Willy Wonka! He played Mr Salt, for those Willy Wonka fans.
And here's another fun connection for the trivia buffs: Roy Kinnear was also a participant in the comedy record Funny Games, Politics, which was produced by ... George Martin.

I realised the other day when I was watching some of the Let It Be movie that Beatles live performances are rarely discussed here on the forum. I have many ideas for topics within that area, but I never make them as i wouldn't know where. Why not create a separate section of the forum (much like The Songs, The Albums etc) just for live performances, called The Shows?

I like this movie a lot mainly because it's in color. I do watch it mainly for the performances but also the silly plot. I love the boys' lines and all of the different scenes.

Saly,
I heard or read that John Lennon in the film Help ! wore his own wristwatch, against the will of the makeup artist. Can anyone confirm this with source? Thanks a lot.

That wouldn't surprise me, as he definitely wore his own cap in A Hard Day's Night against the instructions of the makeup/wardrobe artist.

Footage of the Beatles on location for Help! to go on sale
Unseen footage of the Beatles filmed more than 50 years ago is to go on sale.
From the article:
The Fab Four were caught on camera by actor Leo McKern while on location in the Austrian Alps for the 1965 movie Help !
McKern was cast as Clang, the leader of a mystical cult determined to recover a ring from Ringo Starr ’s finger which would enable a sacrifice to proceed.
The late actor was a keen amateur photographer who took images on the major locations of the film – Obertauern in Austria, the Bahamas and Salisbury Plain.
He also put together a reel of 8mm film, running time 14 minutes 55 seconds and with no sound, which captured the Beatles and fellow cast and crew members in March 1965.
The film captures the Beatles being transported by snowmobile to a rehearsal with a stuntman for the sequence in which Ringo is lassoed from a sledge and dangles upside down from a ski-lift cable.
The band also have a go at tobogganing and play brass instruments at the bottom of the ski run, while George Harrison and John Lennon play a game of curling.
The auction takes places at Warrington-based Omega Auctions on November 20.

Watched this again Yesterday (sorry..... ). Favourite scene has to be where Paul is holding the bikini clad women on the beach. Plot is a bit silly, but followable (is that even a word?
) The bathroom scene above,in @meanmistermustard's post is great also. I also reckon the track selection for the film was spot on.

Just watched help again for the first time in about 20 years and had forgotten how "laugh out loud" a film it is and so ahead of its time; (easy to see where monty python got a great deal of its inspiration from!!). Their love for the goons and "carry on" style slapstick is also so clearly evident and, when combined with their natural wit and charm, the film is irresistible. The shower scene is top notch comedy.......
Had also never really appreciated how natural, relaxed and witty George was in that film. Paul and Ringo also seemed to be relaxed and natural but, for some reason I felt, and frequently feel, a little uncomfortable watching John; I don't want to use the word contrived so, perhaps I'll stick to phrases like "trying just a little too hard" or, "centre of attention" and all that.....!!

Weren't they all stoned during the filming? Does anyone think the pot had any impact on their acting in this film, good or bad?![]()
Yes apparently they were and that would certainly have contributed to them all being a tad more relaxed....
Although I think the pattern was the same as in a hard days night with John again trying a little too hard to be Mr centre stage. No surprise there I suppose, as he was always (possibly until Yoko appeared) the most important person in his life.....
As regards the overall acting, I think, because they were more relaxed, were all quite impressive. Certainly the zany "farce" and furious plot allowed their own inimitable humour to flourish and the excellent support from the "real" actors made them appear even better at times. However, no Oscars I'm afraid....
Bloody great film though.....

Yeah, they were smoking pot for breakfast. Dick Lester had to find many ways to work around how difficult it was to get the film shot and is why there are so many quick cuts as the four couldn't say two lines without breaking into laughter and/or forgetting the script/cues.

I am gonna take archival footage and splice in some new scenes and cut some others to reimagine what Help ! would've been like with a strung out Paul. I can't wait

I wonder how the movie would've turned out if Paul had partaken in the heroin he was offered by the two gorgeous ladies in the Bahamas. Might've put a damper on his performance.![]()
They are described as two beautiful girls in black swimsuits who approached him about heroin. In the film, there is an incidental scene on the beach in the distance with a little crowd with two girls in black costumes and I have wondered if that was them. Either way, so glad he didn't.
One of my favourite bits is a line from Ringo as he and Eleanor Bron are running for there life out a building, Ringo turns and - paraphrasing here - says "Can you explain when a more opportune moment presents itself" sounds lame here now but I burst out laughing, it was like Groucho Marx meets Bugs Bunny.
