As far as the movie goes, my uncle (with whom I saw Paul last year) will be here and I think maybe we’ll go on 7.7.2014, Ringo’s bday.  Avoid the holiday crowds on the 4th here in the states.

Half of what I say is meaningless...

I feel good in a special way, I'm in love and it's a sunny day

Should I just keep it? I always end up with objects that are slightly defective, but then I have very high standards. It happens to me so often that I’m beginning to just resign myself to it. It takes such an effor to mail things back all the time.

I would send it back.  Surely they know how imperfect condition ruins collectibles, and that all beatles items are collectible at this point.  Call them quickly though so they don’t think you did it (though it sounds like it would be difficult to replicate even through abusive usage).

2. What if I have a problem with something I buy?
The Criterion Collection will refund the full purchase amount (including any applicable sales tax, but excluding any shipping and handling fees) if an item is returned within 30 days of the date we ship it to you. Shipping and handling will only be refunded if the problem is the result of our error. All returns are subject to a 10% restocking fee based on your merchandise total.

DVD returns/exchanges will only be accepted if the outer shrink-wrap is intact.

T-shirt and hat returns/exchanges will only be accepted if the item is unwashed and unworn.

Recipients of gifts (as designated in the ship-to address of the order) may exchange items only for ones of equal or lesser value. Refunds can only be made in the original form of payment and only to the original purchaser.

Returns, exchanges, and defective discs should be sent to:

The Criterion Collection
Attn: Jon Mulvaney
215 Park Avenue South, Fifth Floor
New York, NY 10003

…it looks like I can only return a defective disc or a box that is still shrink-wrapped.

Yip. Send it back. You paid for it so they should be supplying you with a pristine copy you are happy with.

I wish I wasn’t such a perfectionist–I’ll probably end up just keeping this copy, but one of the pages of the book was creased in several spots during manufacture, and two of the tiny photos have “lines” going through them and a very slight “whitening” in one spot. The page is pressed down nicely, but the creases are definite, although slight. One of the creases runs down the back of John’s overcoat, and another one goes over the hood of a car next to Ringo, I believe.

Should I just keep it? I always end up with objects that are slightly defective, but then I have very high standards. It happens to me so often that I’m beginning to just resign myself to it. It takes such an effor to mail things back all the time.

Perhaps contact them and see if you can do an exchange for the book.

I wrote them an email. I’ll see if I get a reply. With my luck, I’d send the book and never get one back. ;-)

Mine just shipped. I hope I have better luck with the condition.

They’ve changed the cover. Ringo looks weird in the new one.

That “improvement” made it worse as Ringo looks like he’s been squished on as an afterthought.

I don’t think Ringo is even from the same photo shoot as the others…he’s running, they’re jumping. What a lousy job!

I received mine and it arrived with a corner of the box smashed, so a corner of the photo book was smashed at every page. Since I ordered through Amazon, I’m having them pick it up and replace it. Fortunately I don’t get charged to ship it back.

I’m watching the extras in the meantime. :-|

Ha! Just as I wrote that, I received an email from Criterion saying they are mailing me a replacement book. They didn’t even ask for the other one back.

Cinefamily, the place showing the film in LA (where I’ve been volunteering), is having the opening gala on July 3, as part of Allison Anders’ Don’t Knock the Rock festival. The first 20 people to order VIP couch seating for an extra $20 will get a one-sheet poster.

I’m enjoying these extras, btw. Among them is Richard Lester’s The Running, Jumping and Standing Still film.

@parlance  Do you know where/when it’ll play in New York? Can’t seem to find it on Google.

Thanks!

My replacement DVD/Blu-Ray set has already arrived, in much better condition, thankfully.
