I saw this one recently on BBC America. Having watched/read a lot about the Beatles I was wondering what new info I could discover about the seedy side of our boys. Hang on to your hats…

Did you know that the Beatles did drugs? Were you aware that they often cheated on their lovers/spouses? Imagine my shock when I heard the rumors about John Lennon 's possible affair with Brian Epstein.

Oh horror of horrors!! How could this be?? Not my Beatles!!

Biggest secrets? Maybe at one time they were. Just about everything on this 90-minute documentary has been shown elsewhere but does have some redeeming qualities. It features anecdotes from people who knew them from Hamburg – not just Astrid and her crowd, but barmaids and club managers who were working those clubs at the same time. There are also some funny anecdotes told by the likes of Alistair Taylor and Allan Williams. It's also funny to hear the dramatic music that punctuates each new 'shocking' discovery.

It airs next on BBC America on Monday, July 26 at 3:30 AM ET and again at 2:30 PM ET, so set those DVR's…just don't expect to get blown away.

The following people thank Zig for this post:

I'm confused: is this sarcasm? I think both facts are quite well known… unless my satire-catcher is a little slow today….
But thanks for the info! I wonder if it'll be shown here in Canada! a-hard-days-night-paul-4

You may want to check the batteries in your sarcasm catcher.

Sarcasm is so hard to see in print.

More secrets: John is actually DEAD. Like, there was this weirdo who killed him. There was a HUGE cover-up. And he was replaced with a look-and-sound-and-write-alike. Oh, wait. Wrong forum.

I wouldn't be caught dead in them. They're dead grotty.

I heard that John and Yoko once spent a scandalous night together – while John was still married to Cynthia!

And what's more, that very same night, the two of them posed for a photograph with their bare bottoms visible – and actually used the resulting photograph, uncensored, on the back cover of an album!  (I don't dare imagine what the FRONT cover was like…)

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I heard that John sent Magic Alex to Cynthia's house… to get her drunk… so they would have sex… so he could file HER for divorce on grounds of adultery! a-hard-days-night-ringo-6

And after the aforementioned scandalous night together, Cynthia got home to find Yoko… wearing her bathrobe!

If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.

Check out these things:

1. Is the show in colour?

2. is the host smoking on camera?

3. Do he have a horrible hairdress and very silly jacket?

Maybe this program is from 40 years ago…

I'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.

Another fascinating fact: Nearly all of the percussion sounds on the Beatles records were created by Ringo. He would beat out the rhythms by hitting various drums and cymbals with wooden “drum-sticks” in both of his hands, and the recording engineers would record the results on magnetic recording tape. As a result, the drum sounds could then be easily reproduced any number of times simply by running the tape through a playback device. These methods became standard, and practically every drummer who followed in Ringo's wake would use the very same techniques.

In addition, the vast majority of drummers predating Ringo would also adopt the same techniques as their own, anticipating Ringo's breakthroughs by up to 20 years.

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Did you know that there were FOUR BEATLES? Not three. Not five. But four.

Crazy.

Haha, but back to the original point of this thread. I saw the program. Nothing was revealing. Just put in more context I guess. A big secret for the Beatles would be that Paul really is dead or that they killed a man. It would be even crazier if they killed Paul revealing that he is dead. That would be a fun secret.

Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.

George actually liked Carnival Of Light .

Paul introduced John and Yoko.

Ringo was the grumpy one.

I told her I didn’t

I remember watching this program…about two or something years ago. I think I was eleven or ten, so when I heard everything, I was shocked! I mean, I didn't think that people that looked as innocent as them would do such bad things. I mean, I knew that they did drugs, and all that stuff, but still. I was younger. I knew that everyone had falls at times in their lives, but I guess you never think about celebrities lives until you remember that they actually are normal people too. That was the main reason why I took a fall to liking John as much as I did. I knew that he married Cynthia just becuase she was pregnant, not becuase he really loved her. But I didn't know that other than cheating on her with Yoko (because I knew then that ALL of  the Beatles did cheat) he actually tried to get her drunk and make sure that it looked like she was the Bad Guy. Ugh… John. And don't get me started on Paul. The pimp.

But on the bright side, I was on a retreat today with my class, and one of the priests there was a Beatles fan. He said that the day after (December ninth) John Lennon died, he joined a seminary to help with gang violence because it touched him so. Things like that make me smile.

Also, another thing, my mother has a friend whose mother used to be a groupie for the Beatles. She was really close and, erm, intimate with George, per say. My mother also knows another woman that was Ringo's mistress (to find a better term) while he was still married to Maureen. And when my mom asked the woman about it, she just said “It was the sixties.” Both women have pictures that I have yet to see.

I salute the lady who screamed "I love you Paul!" at a tribute band's concert.
