All You Need Is Cash is one of my favorite Beatle-y movies. I heard that John refused to send back his approval tape that he received for the movie because he loved it so much.

I wondered if there were any potential lawsuits involved, especially with a few of those pieces (like the "Get Back " parody).

John warned several songs were too close, @fertoos, mentioning Get Up and Go in particular (while refusing to return his preview copy).
With the threat of legal action, the copyrights were surrendered to ATV Music, then owners of Northern Songs, and the official writing credits on the songs is either Lennon/McCartney/Innes or Harrison/Innes.

This has been bugging me for a bit, and I thought that maybe one of you would know. What is Mick saying here from about 1:15 to 1:20? I honestly can't decipher it.

Ha, Mick does hate to enunciate. All I can decipher was "...any old slag he'd sell a song to" (?)

Inspired by 'Ron Nasty' on here, I decided to look for 'All You Need Is Cash' on YouTube and was delighted to find it! I watched the whole thing twice yesterday and really loved it! It really brought back memories!
I bought the album as a 16 year old in 1978 ... I'd been a Beatle fan for a couple of years by then ... and must have seen the film on TV around then too! I think some of the scenes went way over my head, but I did love it.
Actually one of my memories involving the album, was visiting my first girlfriend one afternoon in 1978 and taking it with me to play for her. I remember my favourite song was 'It Must Be Love' and played that one! I don't think she was very impressed and wanted to play the new album she had bought, 'Abba - The Album'. I liked ABBA too, so that was ok!
Whether it was The Rutles album or not, she dumped me after a couple of weeks! lol
However, it remains my main memory of The Rutles!
Onto the film, there are so many brilliant clips ... my favourite is the Ron & Gwen at the 'pretentious art gallery' and among the rubble, Ron met the artist herself, 'a simple country girl whose father had invented World War 2!' .... Brilliant!
Neil Innes and Eric idle were inspired!

I finally watched this. A friend convinced me. I had been avoiding it because it looked stupid. It was hilarious. Eric Idle doing Paul McCartney was spot on.

This movie is far from stupid. It is such a clever and detailed parody of the band. However, I can see how on the surface it could look kinda stupid.

Hey WeepyC, I took a close look at the 1978 soundtrack album and can now happily give a definitive answer!
