Now that I’m reading the fine print, not all the songs will be in 5.1. Especially since Love Me Do and other earlier songs were Mono only, it’s understandable that they can’t be in 5.1 Surround.
It reads: new stereo and 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS HD surround audio mixes.
So to me, this is just another re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release. I’m still content with my Red & Blue hits LP’s.
The Blue Rays themselves have been bootlegged for years, but seeing it will be 4K quality, they will be better looking for sure. So now I’m torn on whether to buy it or not.

Wont the stereo mixes be for the cd and the surround sound for the dvd/blu-ray? There are already fan created “stereo” mixes of ‘Love Me Do ‘ out there, the one below being rated as the best so far.

Richard Porter attended the press launch for “Beatles 1” and “Beatles 1+” in London. Here is his report:
“It was held in a special screening room in the basement of the Soho Hotel in London – just yards from Trident Studios, where Hey Jude was recorded.
Unfortunately, none of the Beatles turned up, but there were many well known Beatles writers and DJs, including Mark Lewisohn, Philip Norman, and Paul Gambaccini.”“As we went in, we were each given a copy of the very nice book, that will be included in the ‘Beatles 1+‘ set. It is very nice, with details of how each song was recorded and also how the videos were made.”
“We were then given a talk by Jonathan Clyde from Apple, who told us about each video, and then shown the clips on a big screen. The quality of the videos is awesome, as is the audio.
It’s was interesting that Jonathan told us that Apple didn’t have good quality copies of some of the videos, and that some came from an unnamed ‘American Collector‘.
The stand-out video was definitely Strawberry Fields Forever , which looked like it had been shot yesterday. It is in totally amazing quality.
Another highlight was Don’t Let Me Down , taken from the infamous ‘rooftop concert’. Also brilliant was Paperback Writer , filmed in the grounds of Chiswick House.”“I’d seen nearly all the videos before (but not in such good quality). The only one shown to us which I don’t think I had seen was Rain , from Abbey Road Studios.”
And the bootleg label Misterclaudel are putting out a far more expansive collection than Apple’s official release; quantity v quality.

I’m not sure how a stereo mix and a surround mix could be the same, or did I miss something?

They cant be the same for both as the promo’s for ‘From Me To You ‘ and ‘She Loves You ‘ are live performances (unless they overdub the record over the video).

I meant more for technical reasons as the surround mix needs to split the instruments out to more channels, so presumably there will be adjustments for that and for sound balance across the listening room.

Just finished reading the Mojo article(s) based on this release that mmm mentioned in the news thread. It’s not bad though I don’t agree with all the comments.
The review comes in next month’s issue and, though obviously having heard/seen it, they don’t give much away. However, they do make this comment when giving bullet points on the contents:
…a revelatory stereo mix of Strawberry Fields Forever that supersedes the notoriously weedy, extreme-panned version and adds great low-end oomph.
Michael Lindsay-Hogg, talking about his involvement with them, has this to say on the release of Let It Be on DVD/Blu-Ray:
I’ve been talking with Apple over the years about releasing [it], colour-corrected with a good soundtrack, plus an auxiliary DVD with the stuff that was taken out for time or personality reasons. Dealing with Apple is like dealing with the old Kremlin – you get pointers, clues about it coming out – but I think they regard [it] as the final cherry on top of the cake of all The Beatles’ re-releases.
So, it does seem as if many of us, if not all, will be dead by the time it emerges!
However, they have a bit on each Number One, and Sylvie Simmons in her bit on the Let It Be single really annoyed me in how wildly inaccurate she is when she describes its recording:
Paul’s first shot at recording it had been in January ’69, at Twickenham Film Studios.
Wrong! No proper recording took place at Twickenham.
A second session in April had John on bass, George on backing vocals, Ringo on drums and Billy Preston playing organ.
Wrong! That recording (the basis of both single and album version) took place at Apple on 31 January, the day after the Rooftop performance.
George added a new guitar solo in January 1970 and the single was complete.
Wrong! George’s 4 January solo was not used on the single, it was used on the album version, though many other overdubs from that day by Paul, George, Ringo and Linda (with session musicians) were used. George’s guitar solo on the single was recorded on 30 April 1969.
I do hate it when rubbish like that from a respected music journalist makes it through to the pages of a respected music publication!
She should have checked @Joe’s page on the song!

The more I read, the less I’m interested.
I’ll wait at least a year when I can get it for half price!
