A feature on CNN reports that ‘The Fifth Beatle’ movie will be “the first feature film about the band allowed to use Beatles music” citing Vivek J. Tiwary (the book author) as the source.
Another article about the Beatles music being used in the film. Here’s a bit of information from the article.
SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has been credited with helping Broadway producer VIVEK TIWARY score the rights to use the BEATLES’ music in a planned biopic about legendary Fab Four manager BRIAN EPSTEIN, after his requests to publishing bosses were repeatedly snubbed.
Tiwary detailed Epstein’s life story in last year’s (12) graphic novel The Fifth Beatle, and he has been working on adapting the project for the big screen for years.
However, he struggled to secure permission to use a handful of Beatles songs for the movie soundtrack for some time, until his letters finally reached surviving Beatle Sir Paul McCartney . The rocker checked out Tiwary’s comic book and became such a big fan, he greenlit the request himself and enlisted the backing of former bandmate Ringo Starr , John Lennon ‘s widow Yoko Ono and George Harrison ‘s widow Olivia, too.

I am going to get this book real soon, for I want to know more about this guy and his tragic life.
I must admit, I never gave Brian Epstein much thought but after reading Tune In, I have a whole different perspective on him and just how important he was to The Beatles. Really, if it wasn’t for his true belief in this band, this forum would not exist today.
Amazing how he really set the template on what a band manager is.

I received the book as a Christmas gift. I read the majority on Christmas and finished the last bits the next day. I admit before reading it, I was weary of how they would tell Brian’s story. I thought they did a lovely job and was plenty entertained. Once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed the beautiful artwork as well. I give it 5 apples:

I got an email that Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA (a suburb of LA) will have an opening reception for an exhibit dedicated to rock n’ roll this Saturday, and Andrew Robinson will be there to sign copies of the book from 8-10pm. [x-posted at the news thread]

I went to the opening last night, and uploaded pics to my instagram (wish I could sort them in their own album, but oh well). The signing with Andrew C. Robinson was part of a larger exhibit called “Like a Rolling Stone: A Rock & Roll Reflection.” I wasn’t sure what artwork was going to end up on the website, so I took my crappy cell phone pics of everything Beatley, plus one Rolling Stone-inspired piece. The large-scale painting in particular was worth seeing up close, and appears to have been finished very recently, as it was signed with “2014.” Edit: Yes, he finished it just in the nick of time.
I was pleasantly surprised to see original drawings by Robert Valley of work he did for the Rock Band cinematic. And this one from an earlier exhibit on Beatlemania was one of my favorites.
I had to get to a friend’s birthday party, so I made sure I was first in line for the signing, which Andrew commented on that with a smile. Unfortunately, just as the signing started, an extremely loud Led Zeppelin tribute band started playing, so I had to scream out the spelling of my name, and he misspelled it anyway, lol. That’s all right. He seemed really nice, and he drew a little picture next to his autograph.

re: American Idol the other night
Throughout the evening were interspersed video packages showing the judges revealing five things about themselves in 20 seconds, starting with Keith Urban, who called his favorite Beatle “Brian Epstein,” a.k.a. their manager. Cute.
I don’t understand Twitter much, but it seems that this was said on there. I see it listed on the Google results page for my search *keith urban brian epstein*
Love that @KeithUrban’s fave Beatle is #BrianEpstein!

From the Examiner:
“The Fifth Beatle” graphic novel about Beatles manager Brian Epstein has been named a finalist in the 26th Annual Lambda Literary Awards, which celebrate achievement in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) writing for books published in 2013, writer Vivek Tiwary told Beatles Examiner on March 6. The nomination is a ground breaker since this year’s awards marked the debut of a category for graphic novels, according to the award website.
The winners for this year’s Lambda Literary Awards will be announced June 2, at The Great Hall at Cooper Union, 7 East 7th Street in New York City. You can get more information and buy tickets at this link.

Episode 87 of Fab4Free4All was ‘The Fifth Beatle’ with Vivek Tiwary‘ and the descriptor reads:
Once upon a time, a man who was quietly running the music department of his family’s store in Liverpool stumbled upon a fiery young group of musicians lighting up the stage at The Cavern Club. Who could know that the meeting that was to follow between Brian Epstein and the group with the unusual name ‘The Beatles’ would lead to incredible changes in pop culture and beyond. Author Vivek Tiwary joins Fab 4 Free 4 All to talk about ‘The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story’. The book is a beautifully drawn and written graphic novel that tells the story of a complex, troubled, kind and driven young man who, as manager of the Beatles, would be a catalyst for change that had never been experienced before from something as ‘trivial’ as the world of music and entertainment. We are delighted to be premiering this episode on the day of Brian’s induction into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’.

Hey Dullblog post on an interview with Tiwary that mentions an interesting quote from Brian:
There’s a line in the book, during a television interview where Brian’s being asked about the Beatles’ romantic lives, and Brian said “I think Beatles ought never to be married, but they will be one day and someday I might too.” It was viewed as a throwaway joke at the time, but really it was a pretty heavy thing that he said – people who knew him well realized he was saying something quite dangerous for that time. Because forget about getting married, he was worried about staying out of jail, should his sexuality be discovered – that’s the way things were in 1960s England. If there had been marriage equality in the 1960s, it would clearly have made a huge difference in Brian’s life, it might have even saved his life.

Edgy graphics and clever story line that goes through the highlights of the Beatle story via Brian. Really enjoyed it. Sometimes requires inside knowledge of the band (Brian repeatedly says “Number Nine” – and then suddenly we see a rendition of Yoko).
