I just received a new copy of this book, bought from World Of Books for £6.20 delivered (£2 extra for international orders). They’ve got four copies left if anyone’s interested (RRP is £20; Amazon are selling it for £16).

I don’t generally go for Beatles picture books, but this is nicely done – reproductions of Tony Booth’s posters for The Beatles’ shows at the Cavern and other Liverpool venues. I thought I’d share the link in case anyone else wants a copy.

When I posted that last week I didn’t think I’d end up owning an original Tony Booth painted poster, but one popped up on eBay last night for a fraction of the usual price (they typically sell for thousands) and I snagged it. Can’t wait to get it framed and up on the wall.

Here’s the show it relates to – it was a big one:

Suddenly we were a wow. Mind you, 70% of the audience thought we were a German wow, but we didn’t care about that. Even in Liverpool, people didn’t know we were from Liverpool. They thought we were from Hamburg. They said, ‘Christ, they speak good English!’ which we did, of course, being English.
It was that evening that we really came out of our shell and let go. We stood there being cheered for the first time. This was when we began to think that we were good. Up to Hamburg we’d thought we were OK, but not good enough. It was only back in Liverpool that we realised the difference and saw what had happened to us while everyone else was playing Cliff Richard s**t.

Oh, very nice! Very cool that you were able to snag a Deltones poster!
But seriously folks…you must send us a pic when it is properly framed and hung on the wall.

Ooh, nice job Joe. Someone who never checked the value put it up I imagine. They’re probably delighted with their £350 😉 .
The seller told me she knew the approximate value but wanted a quick sale. She said:
My dad bought it from the exhibition…I think he actually had a friend who knew Tony. He gave it to me but we aren’t really Beatles fans so it’s great to know it’s going to someone who will get the most from it.

Quick update on this: I got a refund because it looked more like a print than a painting. There were a few things that didn’t look right upon close inspection.
The item is currently being relisted on eBay, though it’s no longer being described as a painting.
While attempting to verify the poster I got talking to Tony Booth’s son Lee. He still has some handpainted posters from the Liverpool exhibition, which he sells for £500. Signed prints are £150. So a lot cheaper than getting one from eBay, and guaranteed genuine.
