Thank you @The Hippie Chick and @DrBeatle. I’m really glad you enjoyed it!Just a couple of corrections to your review, Drew. John wasn’t the only Beatle to use heroin – Paul did before him, as mentioned in the book, though Lennon was the only one to get a habit. I think that’s a distinction worth making. And you say that cocaine and heroin were the final two chapters, but there were five after that! But with a 10/10 rating I’ll let it go. Thank you so much!
I found out today that Canadian readers are a little less effusive. I have two reviews on Amazon.ca, both so-so:
3.0 out of 5 stars
By Herculeon October 23, 2017For Beatles fans only
4.0 out of 5 stars
By Ensign Jack
This is a not surprising but interesting read.
Good catch, I should make that distinction. As for the chapters, I meant that they were the final chapters focusing on specific drugs, but I obviously didn’t convey that well…time for a spot of editing… 🙂

I finally bought a copy today. I was holding out on getting one because I thought I might get it for Christmas. Be sure to expect a five-star review in the future, Joe.

Finally finished the book. Loved it. I’ll definitely be recommending it to family and friends. Some really funny stories in there. Thanks for confirming that the Beatles DIDN’T in fact smoke a spliff in the toilet at Buckingham Palace, I’d always doubted that story anyway. (Fun fact: my dad was born 3 days after the Beatles got their MBE’s.)
Reading about,in particular, John’s struggles with drugs was an eye opener too. I obviously knew he was a heroin addict, but I didn’t realize, for example, that he’d got off it and then got hooked on Methadone. I also found interesting the complete contrast with McCartney’s drug use, where Paul was able to cope without becoming addicted, and realised when was the right time to stop before he got in too deep. I suppose the fact that his mother was a nurse probably made him a lot more wary of drugs and their effects
Congratulations again @Joe. Thanks for a good read

I can officially say that I started reading this book today and it’s already half-finished, at the moment I found it very interesting and also funny! I’ll give a full detailed review when I’ll finish it 🙂

Ahhh Girl, JoeThanks @annyskod! Amazon reviews are hugely appreciated, though feel free to post here instead/as well.
On that note, I got my first four-star review on Amazon.com, which broke my 100% 5* record! I guess I shouldn’t be too disappointed, and at least it was a fair review:

Interesting book in that is does go into areas not heard before, without promoting it.

I was looking up Derek Taylor’s book As Time Goes By and saw that your book was in the list of items of “customers who bought that item also bought…”
How cool is that! Congratulations!
It’s hugely useful to have those lists, for the increased visibility. When the book was first published I was having to get the word out myself, but thanks to Amazon’s algorithmic benevolence it pops up in unexpected places.
It’s the same with sales charts – I’ve been top three in a couple of amazon.co.uk charts (books > rock etc) this month and it really does help increase sales. I was hoping it’d become a bestseller but it’s slipped down a little now. Maybe another time.

@DrBeatle also leant a hand, @Joe, by starting a thread on the book on the Steve Hoffman Music Forums. Having read most of the 9 pages it’s built up in the last month, you got quite a few purchases via that.

Yes, the discussion over there has been almost wholly positive. There’s only been one arsehole troll who has tried to hijack the thread but luckily it looks as though he’s been run off.

I got a very lovely review by Diana on the Oldies Music Blog.
http://www.oldiesmusicblog.com…..and-drugs/
This book is so extraordinarily conceived that it presents without exception all their failures, but still has the amazing power to highlight the unbelievable phenomenon they were and the astonishing legacy they left behind.
I just couldn’t put down the book for several days. The very rich bibliography is a good starting point for a good book, but the author’s literary talent makes it even better. Every detail, every fact, every milestone of the Beatles’ career is presented from multiple points of view, enabling us to build the big pictures in our minds…
Isn’t that nice?

All living things must abide by the laws of the shape they inhabit
Nah, nobody would want to hear me droning on for hours on end.
I used to work with someone whose son is an actor, and he did a lot of audiobooks. Apparently the actors often/typically/sometimes/occasionally (I’m not entirely sure) work for nothing and split the profits 50-50. Since I self-published the book and own the rights, I could in theory just strike a similar arrangement on my own and sell the recordings through the site. It’s not something I’ve given much thought to though.
