I pretty much agree with all of the above. And as it's as close as we're likely to get to a McCartney autobiography (otherwise I doubt he'd have given so much time to Miles), so every fan should have a copy.

Well, this may come as a total surprise for you, but if I had to pick one out of these two options – I would go for the first!
I agree with Skye about BM having a LOT to tell about the “Indira Book Shoop”, something I couldn't be less interested in…
But since it's a book you can just skip these pages and nobody's hurt.
The rest is really amazing, at least for me, since Paul himself (sometimes others as well) comments on SO many Beatles songs and how they were made and what they meant and who wrote what etc.
I know MANY people claim that he takes too much away from John on that topic. I can't agree at all with that. His descriptions almost excactly mirror what I would have suspected anyway just by listening to the songs (who sings what): Two strong lead vocals – two main writers. And apart from that the stronger the vocal, the more one of them had writing credits.
I never had the feeling he took anything away from John. I like his way of giving John or himself like “80 percent” of the song and I think he's pretty acurate.
And he says there are only very few songs both of them disagree about.
And the book really doesn't make him look like the unfailable hero, especially his flaws with women (before Linda).
It also explains very well Paul's “ground to earth” personality. Many people dislike his optimism and “thumbs up” attitude. But that's just the way he is, in contrast to the more self-destructive, pessimistic, insecure Lennon.
The book shows very nicely how they're still able to bond, especially after having lost their mums, and how they really loved each other, and how devasted Paul was after John's dead.
Sadly there's not that much about Paul's after-Beatles-life, but with the song-AND artist-index at the end it's like your little Beatles-encyclopedia.
Brilliant book, I love it! Some beautiful pictures, too.
I have always found John was quick to say Mine or Paul's whereas McCartney is much more methodical in who wrote than John.

'When the fall's all that's left, it matters a great deal.
