Can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve been on here! (“Been away so long I hardly knew the place…”)
Anyway, among other Beatles-related books I’ve reviewed in the meantime, my newest one is on Lennonology. I loved the book…crammed full of info but incredibly engaging and fascinating, and a LOT of new info I had never seen before. Here’s my review of it –> http://rnrchemist.blogspot.com…..-days.html
Eagerly awaiting volume 2 now! Who else here has read it? What did you think?

I was just thinking about you the other day DrB! I was wondering where our resident chemist was.

Great to see you again, Doc. Been to Fenicci’s lately?
I haven’t read this one yet but based on your excellent review, it will be on my Christmas list this year. I still have to finish all of the ones from last year.

Thanks, guys! It was a stressful/busy/crazy last 9 months or so, but things are finally starting to settle down and get back to “normal,” or as close to whatever that is as it possibly can.
I can’t recommend the Lennonology book enough, @Zig. It’s fantastic. I’m working on an interview with Chip Madinger regarding the book and his research…when that’s ready, I’ll share it here.

@meanmistermustard, @DrBeatle (good to see you)
It is a stunning book and worth every penny (despite my complaints about price at the time).
I’m a John man, in case you didn’t know. He was my way into The Beatles, or rather sadly his death was. Told that story elsewhere here.
My reading on John began with the newspaper coverage, went onto the magazine specials put out by the newspapers and other publications (still got some of those), then it was the rush-released cash-in paperbacks, then the Hunter Davies, as I began my tumble down the rabbit hole…
I have read a lot over the years, and a lot about John, even the Goldman trash, and it is easily the best book on John that’s out there. The amount of things I came across that were either completely new to me, events cast in a different light, or given a much more detailed telling-of than before. It is also fascinating to have the contemporary narrative provided by the inclusion of selected “highlights” from their press coverage over the years.
The only moan is that I want the details in the later volumes now.
Easily among my top half-dozen Beatles books.
Good review, DB. In full agreement about how well they’ve chosen their ending, just John stepping out of the limo to follow Yoko in, and then no more. It’s very moving, it makes the finality of what happened all the more shocking because we’re so used to reading what came next.
For me, that’s kind of where I came in… reading what came next on the front pages of the papers…

I’m with you @Ron Nasty, I can’t wait for volume 2. I’m curious as to see the format and what’s contained within since the day-to-day stuff was taken care of in volume 1. Regardless of how it turns out, it’s sure to impress.

@DrBeatle It says in “Before We Begin | Notes on Style” on page 14:
The Beatles’ recording sessions have been expertly researched and are fully covered in other books and publications. The majority of these sessions are listed within, with a minimal level of detail, but enough to maintain a thorough accounting of John’s artistic endeavors during this time frame. In order to maintain a sense of consistency, John and Yoko’s sessions are also described in brief; however, these recording dates will be fully detailed in the other volumes of LENNONOLOGY.

@Ahhh Girl Could you capitalise the title of this thread as the authors consistently use capitals in every use of the title of the book (see the above post)?

Thanks for that, @Ahhh Girl.
I think they keep it capitals because it’s easier to see that it’s really Lennon-Ono-olgy contracted. When you just capitalise the L, it’s easy to miss the importance of the ono in the middle of the title.
There’s a word for that trick, but I can’t think what it is.

Oh yeah, I knew that…I just meant whether it would be similar to the way Lewisohn did it for the Beatles, or in some other different format 🙂
