I couldn’t find a thread for this, though there have been a few mentions here and there.
Chip Madinger, who co-wrote (with Mark Easter) the excellent Eight Arms To Hold You, has put out a release date for the first volume of LENNONOLOGY Volume One: Strange Days Indeed. It’ll be out on 9 October 2015.
lennonology.com is the website, but there’s quite a lot of info about what the books will contain here (not sure how up-to-date that is, though). The Facebook page is good value too.
The format of the books has been in flux from day one, and I suppose it still is, but to a much lesser extent. At this point in time, LENNONOLOGY will consist of four volumes. The first, Strange Days Indeed, was co-authored with Scott Raile, and is a diarized account of John and Yoko’s time together from 1968 through 1980. Its publication has been mooted for a number of years, and has consistently been delayed without fail so that it may properly serve as the keystone of the series. Scott has been patient beyond belief, and has faithfully responded to innumerable requests for web searches and trips to the library. The remaining three volumes will cover the creation process, production and promotion of John and Yoko’s art. These surely seem to be broad descriptions, but will come into focus over time. At the moment, the series is approaching 2,500 pages and nearing 1.5 million words. I intend to make parts of the book available electronically in hopes of minimizing the consistently escalating shipping charges that will unfortunately be so excessive that some may not be able to afford a copy.
I’m pretty excited about this. The author has spent years going through documents and artefacts, and all being well this will be a fabulous reference work.

One could also refer to Johannine and Pauline theology…
If we followed what we know about John and Paul the Apostles, I guess that would make John the beloved, and the guardian of the inner tradition, while Paul would be responsible for perverting the original message and making it all about his own ideas.

Fifteen years in the making, the first volume of the LENNONOLOGY series is near realization. Strange Days Indeed—A Scrapbook Of Madness is a day-by-day account of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s artistic and personal partnership from 1968-1980 that will transport the reader back in time to accompany John and Yoko as their future unfolds.
A painstakingly researched collection, Strange Days Indeed—A Scrapbook Of Madness has been written in the form of a daily journal, and weaves oral history together with narrative and contemporary graphic material to provide the most accurate and unbiased portrait of the Lennons’ lives and art ever produced.
Such an important release is deserving of a deluxe treatment, and keeping that in mind, 500 hardbound copies will be produced, the first 250 of which will be signed and numbered. In addition to the hardback edition, production will be limited to 1500 softbound copies.
However, to make this book a reality will require the advance support of a minimum number of readers. We humbly request that if you are interested in supporting LENNONOLOGY and wish to guarantee the publication of this unprecedented reference, that you reserve your copy of Volume One at this time.
Interest in this book has been considerable, and we expect that the hardback edition will be fully subscribed prior to publication. A release date of October 9th has been established to align with what would have been John’s 75th birthday.
Pre-orders will be accepted at http://www.lennonology.com beginning at 12:00 EST on Saturday, July 25th. Additional details regarding tiers of support and premiums will be forthcoming over the next few days.

I’m glad to see this. I’ve been looking forward to seeing it for some time. I’m a sucker for Beatles reference books.
I’ll go for one of the paperback copies. I don’t really care about deluxe autographed limited editions if there’s also a cheaper version available with the same content. There are loads of publishers right now putting out lavish editions of Beatles books (Genesis Publications, Some Fun Tonight and so on) with prices well out of reach of most buyers.
It’s a shame really. I’d love to read Derek Taylor’s memoir Fifty Years Adrift, but only 2,000 copies were made and I can’t afford any of them. And I’m not the only one. The writing and information is now only accessible to a very limited number of people which is pretty unhelpful. Anyone would think authors wanted to be read.
I understand that a lot of work goes into research and writing something, but as a consumer I’m not convinced that a high price and limited print-run is the best way to recoup. Props to Chip Madinger for putting out a cheaper version, though it’s a shame that there’ll only be a total of 2,000 copies of this one too.</rant>
I don’t know the price of Strange Days Indeed. Eight Arms To Hold You cost $27.50 inc. US delivery. It took literally years to sell out too (with a similar print run?), so it’ll be interesting to see what effect the online hype train has here.

Unfortunately it’s gonna have to compete against Beatles 1 CD/Blu Ray w/Booklet combo for my money!
There’s just not enough money to go around!!!!!!!

I bought this a while back and have dipped into it Now And Then . It’s very thorough. A lot of the earlier info (1966-70) was very familiar to me, but the later years uncover a lot I didn’t already know.
The reason I wanted to revive this thread was I’ve just spent a while looking for the citations pdf. Chip Madinger said this would be available to people who bought it from his website (“subscribers”). Because I bought it from a UK-based seller (legit, authorised by Chip) I didn’t get the info, but I found it on another website (reposting them here in case anyone else needs them):

Chip actually asked me to review this book for my website…but only if I could buy my own copy, as he didn’t have any extra to send as a review copy. Sadly, I had to decline as I don’t have the $100 laying around to buy this book, but I hope to get it somehow, someday. I love his Eight Arms to Hold You book.

I received my copy yesterday.
Some thoughts.
Firstly, on marketing.
Disgraceful.
My copy (hardback) came from the official site. There the price is $150. However, on receipt of the book, the price printed on the book, and the price given for the book on the Customs Declaration, is $125. Now, I can understand them charging more for signed copies of the hardback, that’s added value, but my copy isn’t signed. What’s the explanation for the book being priced at $125 and me being charged $150 for it.
Under UK law that would be illegal. Here you would not be able to do that. If something has a marked price on it, as the book does, you are not allowed to charge more than that marked price.
It also said that it would come with access to the electronic indexes and the Lennonology forum. Nothing with my copy that tells me how to access any of those features on the website. Luckily for me, @Joe posted links to the indexes, which I’ve downloaded.
To the book itself though, and obviously still grazing before I start to read…
Magnificent!
The nearest equivalent would be something like Mark Lewisohn’s The Complete Beatles Chronicle or the Day By Day books, but Madinger and Raile add in a parallel narrative I’ve not seen before, how the press were reporting John, and Yoko.
For instance, on 20th April 1968, there’s a story from the Daily Mirror about how three cubs got scared to tell John they’d lost his dog on a bob-a-job. Except they hadn’t. John’s dog was as unruly as he, and always running off only to come home when he was hungry. But, at the other end of revelation, there’s the press coverage and court reporting of Yoko’s battle for custody of Kyoko.
The sad reality is that, as everywhere, though more precise than many, it dwindles after 1975. It reaches 1976 on page 465 (having started with 2 pages on 1966, and 4 on 1967), and 8 December 1980, which is spread across 3 pages, begins at the bottom of the first column on page 537. Less than a hundred pages on his last five years. They did what they could with them.
I like, and admire them for, stopping at the point where John steps out of the limo to follow Yoko into the Dakota.
We know what happened.
It is right to stop a project like this in the moment before it happened.
I am looking forward to reading this in detail.

In the UK, if something is marked at a lower price, the seller can just withdraw it from sale once they become aware of the error. You’re not guaranteed the product at that price, although it is often honoured. From what I can tell the price is only advisory anyway, and you’re welcome to negotiate with the sales assistant (though very few people do unless they’re buying cars or houses). And things are often sold for more than the marked price, eg second hand books which have a printed price on the back, but a scribbled price on the inside. Who’s going to argue that the Paul McCartney book from 1983 should be sold at the original 99p rather than the revised 2016 price of £3.99?
The Lennonology website still says standard (non-signed) hardbacks are on sale for $150 (all the signed copies are sold out). I don’t know why they’re not listed at $125. Have you contacted Chip to find out?
As far as I know, the non-signed hardbacks were never listed at $125. I don’t know the US law, but as a private seller isn’t it up to Chip to set his prices? Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like you were willing to pay $150 for the book, but it’s only the price on the back and the customs form that has made you unhappy. If Chip won’t give you a partial refund I’d just be happy with having the book you wanted for the price you agreed to pay, rather than it leaving you with a sour taste.
Perhaps he originally intended to sell it for $125, but the sums didn’t work out so he had to revise it upwards. He couldn’t put a higher price on the customs declaration in case the package was opened and the book displayed a price of $125 – you’re supposed to tell the truth on those, although many people don’t.
The pdf downloads are now available from the same Lennonology link above, incidentally.
