Von Bontee said, “I think Sharon Tate, Brian Jones and Ted Kennedy would disagree with your summer ’69 assessment!”
For sure!
(There’s an astronaut connection here – as usual: Ted Kennedy’s ass was saved by NASA. The Chappaquidick/death of Mary-Joe Kopechne incident was wiped off the front pages by Apollo 11.)
Von Bontee, said,“Gimme summer ’67 instead”
Summer of Loooooove. Sgt Pepper , “All You Need Is Love ,” Monterrey Pop Festival, groovy colors, the recent arrival of Cream, Hendrix, Doors, Janice Joplin,… My #2 choice for coolest decade of the ’60s.

Wow! I would love to have that. Where’s it from? AFAIK they only ever did three signing sessions, and just one for the release of Love Me Do, in Widnes (can I get a Widnes?).
Wanna swap for the rare withdrawn LMD 2012 reissue? Thought not.
Can buy me love! Please consider supporting the Beatles Bible on Amazon

That was “Some Kind Of Awful”.

Joe, thanks for pointing out the provenance of the piece. It’s definitely one of my favorites (but wait until the 50th anniversary of I Want To Hold Your Hand and Meet the Beatles…)
Zig, thanks for remembering the lecture. It was a great audience of students aged 18-21 years old and they were very enthusiastic [of course there was free pizza, soda, and Beatle music, so maybe this had nothing to do with me]. I stayed to chat long after the lecture was over. Yes ………. it is visible on YouTube
[it took a while for my son to realize he needed to raise the camera a bit].

Every Now And Then I’ll post some memorabilia that I’ve pulled out of a closet and dusted off.
This piece is quite different: it’s future memorabilia.
You see, it’s dated 2012 and was just given to me today by someone at work.
What I find remarkable is that a 40-50 year old band would still be considered marketable to little kids.
(Now let’s see, when I was 5 years old would I have been interested in any musical act going back 45 years?)
Note to memorabilia collectors: the ideal time to get memorabilia is BEFORE it’s considered memorabilia.
If I were 20 years old, I’d buy Harry Potter stuff and sit on it a few decades. And I’d keep it un-opened!
I have a Jimi Hendrix album that I bought as a kid and never took out of the cellophane wrapper. I didn’t buy it with memorabilia in mind. I thought that one day when I was “old” I’d open it with some “old” high school friends and we’d listen to it over a beer as if it were a brand new album. Still might.
Should have done that with a few Beatle albums…

No way! It would be pure impossible to let it sit on the shelf and not listen to it. Nice idea though.
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

I just now had some time to watch the whole thing. You really do a great job on these lectures. If you ever schedule a lecture up toward my neck of the woods, please let me know. I’d love to attend one in person.

Why thanks, Zig.
Would be very happy to come to beautiful Maine for a lecture! (I lectured at Colby College a few years back, but on unrelated topics.)

Thanks meanmistermustard, it is a fun collection indeed, but you can pull your tongue back in on this one: alas, I don’t own this piece.
I bid on it but didn’t get it (win some, lose some).
I thought it was interesting enough to post though.
Happy New Year!!!

I wonder if the winning bidder is feeling charitable this christmas and wants to donate it to a scottish beatle fan. Any idea who bought it, where they stay, their email address and phone number?
The following people thank meanmistermustard for this post:

Right!
Of course you hardly ever know whom you’re bidding against. Reminds me of a story though: years ago, I was bidding on the handwritten lyrics to Lennon’s “God .” At some point the person next to me gently elbowed me and said, “You’re bidding against the Hard Rock Cafe.” I was never gonna win that one…
[I do enjoy going to Hard Rock Cafe’s to see all the stuff I got outbid on! (and the Hard Rock Cafe is featured at the end of Into the Sky…)]

Latest addition: two fabulously huge books of photographs. Here’s the first: Harry Benson’s “On the Road – The Beatles 1964-1966.”
Many outtakes of famous pictures + famous pictures as they first appeared (in newspapers and magazines) + famous pictures seen LARGE.

Are you the source of the uncropped Rubber Soul pic ITSWD?
