Since my last request was such a resounding success, I thought I’d capitalise on people’s largesse and ask again.

Does anyone have access to this book? It’s a long shot, because only 2,000 copies were made (signed by Derek Taylor and George Harrison ), and there’s never been a mass-market reissue.

http://www.genesis-publication…..irt/deluxe

There are some extracts here, but I think the blog owner borrowed a copy temporarily. It looks fascinating, and I could really make use of some of the stories within the book. Please get in touch if you read this and can help.

@Ahhh Girl, you’re more than welcome to buy me a copy (a-hard-days-night-john-6), but would you be able to share the details of libraries worldwide which have it? I guess there’s an outside chance that somewhere near me might have it.

And if anyone from Genesis Publications happens to read this, how about a reissue?

Ohhh this is the one where he detailed Paul’s bizarre postcard period! And that foreword by George is amazing. And also nice to see that it apparently corroborates Richard DiLello’s book which has been snarked at as being mostly made up. If one of the comments is right, there must be a library copy somewhere.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe.  This has been true for 2016 & 2017 Sig-Badge.png but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Those extracts suggest that George contributed a lot more than just the intro – it seems that he shared anecdotes throughout much of the book.

And yeah, that Paul episode does really sit at odds with his public persona. Presumably it was around the time that he left John the postcard which allegedly read: “You and your Jap tart think you’re hot shit.” Apparently he explained it away by saying it was written “for a lark”, but it’s a bizarre exchange by any measure.

Does anyone know where that story first came to light? I’ve seen it quoted a few times but don’t know the original source. Did Lennon mention it in an interview?

(Sorry for going off-topic.)

If you read the Genesis description, it says George edited and annotated it.

The ‘Jap tart’ postcard is apparently a memoir of Francie Schwartz in her memoir Body Count, according to Wikipedia. Doggett also mentions it. Many people think it’s an invention of Francie’s but Taylor’s memoir suggests otherwise.

Thank you! It’s annoying there’s just the one UK library copy, but I might be able to organise a trip to the British Library at some point.

@Joe now has a copy of this book to delve into. I loaned him the one I bought. I hope he finds some really good stuff to put on the Beatles Bible.

@Ahhh Girl It’s going to be fantastically useful! I’ve been a bit scared to delve into it much, particularly when the kids are around (“Dad, what’s that?” *riiiip!*), but what I’ve read looks really, really good. I’m going to be plundering it thoroughly in the coming months. Thanks so much for the loan!

Hi Joe,

I have a copy of this book – signed by George. My husband and I used to own bookshops in New Zealand and we ordered in 3 copies. Only 2 sold and I was given the last one for Christmas! It is in PERFECT condition – in fact when we left NZ to come to Australia – I carried it in my lap the whole way.

Let me know if you need any info from it

Cheers

Hi Magenta, and welcome to the forum! You’re really lucky to have been given a copy.

Thanks for the offer. I’m actually OK – @Ahhh Girl kindly lent me hers, which I still have. It’ll be a sad day when I have to give it back. It’s an incredible book, and invaluable for Beatles scholars.
