Treasures Of The Beatles is good. I ran a feature on it here: https://www.beatlesbible.com/b…..y-burrows/
Till There Was Music is a photo book using material from the Daily Mail archives. I've got a copy but it's not especially worth getting hold of. It has some editorial but it's nothing you won't find in other, better, books.

Query!
Could someone who owns I Me Mine , George's biography, look up the quote that is inscribed on George's house? Or something to that effect? The quote has something to do with 'yesterday' and I recall I quite liked it.
Pretty please? 😀
Tongue, lose thy light. Moon, take thy flight… see ya, George!

Yesterday , today was tomorrow
And tomorrow, today will be yesterday
Is that it?
Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo! So little time! So much to know!

That must be it! It was whatever was in the book- I couldn't recall exactly what it was, but that's probably it, thank you Skye!

Wow, Lewis, I don't have any of those. Are there one or two that you'd recommend as favorites?
Until you get IHOW (and you should), you can read most of it here:
Treasures Of The Beatles is very good. It has small information on every song and lots of fake tickets and other things like Postcards, setlists, gig posters, etc. All the things are in little envelopes. A very good book with good things inside. Here are a few …
The Beatles. then there was music is also very informative. It is a think book and covers everything the lads ever did! Also a very good book.
for the other two, Just buy Help ! Movie and Yellow Submarine Movie!
Anytime at all, all you gotta do is call, and I'll be there.

I personaly liked the book and found it very enjoyable. Although there are a few mistakes!

Then There Was Music – of course! I was getting it confused with Till There Was You , where the line comes from. My brain's not what it used to be

I have The Story Behind Every Beatles Song (a newer version of A Hard Day’s Write riddled with typos) and the Daily Mail one and I’ve borrowed others from the library. I currently have one out from the university library published by Cambridge (although written in American English for some reason), it’s a recent book which tries to take an “educated” point-of-view on their history. I like it, but then I like most books to do with The Beatles.
I didn’t like one about Sgt. Pepper ‘s which analysed the musical technicality stuff that I don’t understand or care about (notes, keys, etc). Although I was impressed that every other book in the series was about classical music so it just goes to show that even music snobs agree The Beatles are as good (or better) as Beethoven and friends.
I also have a book of John Lennon quotes compiled by Desmond Tutu as part of a series of quotation books from famous peace activists (Martin Luther King Jr, Ghandi, etc).
I want Anthology and Mark Lewisohn’s books as well as John Lennon ‘s books. Perhaps one day when I’ve got some money, but this week I’ve started my three years of student poverty. Hoorah!

Recently got this little beauty from a friend of a friend- she insisted I take it as I’m such a fan! Perhaps she was bribing me because she knows I’m not the fondest of her… but, a gift is a gift!
Though the background is blue as opposed to brown… anyways, no nitpicking! It’s the Beatles Illustrated Lyrics compiled by Alan Aldridge.
It’s really a beautiful book, a few errors in the lyrics here and there, but I blame that to not the best sound for the albums back in the sixties… the book was written in the 70s, if I’m not mistaken!
But look at some of the illustrations… beauty!

That book is naughty! The first picture clearly illustrates two big “boobs” with fully erect nipples! Those are nice looking boobs!
From what I can make out of the writing on the page it’s talking about “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds “.
The third picture shows a captain licking the nipple of a naked woman! Great book for children….not! 🙂
Sunday's on the phone to Monday, Tuesday's on the phone to me.
I’ve got an original copy of that; it used to belong to my parents but I swiped it along with all their Beatles vinyl
I think the first edition came out in around 1968 (I’m typing in another room and can’t be bothered to check), then Aldridge published a follow-up volume later on with a load more illustrations. These days its sold as a single book. As for the nudity, yeah there’s a bit, but it was the ’60s man…
I think the rudest one might be Helter Skelter . What a ride…

I bought this book when I was about 14-15 (early seventies). I used to look at the photos more than the words to the songs – hee hee. I still have it but it’s almost fallen apart……………….

Late to this party, as well. Forgive me?
As an English Lit major/teacher and total bibliophile in my other life, haha, I have a growing affection for and collection of Beatles books. The majority of them are at my house in America, and they include two large photo books (one the Unseen Archive, I think; the other focused on John Lennon ) and The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics with the gold-brown cover shown in an above post. Beyond those my mind is drawing a blank for now. While I’ve been in Britain I’ve picked up Revolution in the Head by Ian MacDonald because it’s like a print version of Joe’s site and will go nicely on my coffee table. It was dirt cheap in HMV, along with some iffy photo book simply called “The Beatles” that had a few new-to-me photos; I know, what a sell out.
I ran a coach trip full of uni students to Hay on Wye yesterday. It’s known for being a “town of books,” as there are twenty odd bookshops within the confines of a rather small village. My favourite find? “The Beatles Literary Anthology” for £3. Right. Up. My. Alley.
Do what you want to do, and go where you're going to…
I’ve not seen the Literary Anthology. Is it any good?
Books I’ve come by since starting this thread:
- Fab Four FAQ 2.0 (deals with the solo years 1970-80, in chapters sorted by theme. I got sent a review copy; it’s really good – much better than I thought it would be. Review to follow soon.)
- Recording The Beatles (way expensive but absolutely essential if you’re interested in the studio side of things)
- Eight Arms To Hold You by Chip Madinger/Mark Easter (quite a dry catalogue of most of the solo years, but useful as a reference guide)
- All You Need Is Ears by George Martin (I’ve only read the first 50 pages or so, but it’s nicely written)
- That Magic Feeling 1966-70 by John C Winn (builds upon the info in Lewisohn’s Recording Sessions, with various corrections, new insights and information on TV/radio broadcasts, home demos, amateur footage etc. It’s great – I’ll be getting volume one, Way Beyond Compare, as soon as I’m able)
- Get Back by Doug Sulpy and Ray Schweighhardt (if you’re in the UK don’t buy the 2007 edition from Amazon.co.uk – it’s a reissue of the first 1998 edition, but I only found this out one I’d bought it. Sulpy’s website has a completely rewritten version available as a pdf for $10, updated in 2007 with new info and findings. I’ll be sending my copy back to Amazon.)

From what I could tell, Joe, it is FANTASTIC. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, including some of their own writing, transcriptions of interviews and literary/historical/sociological essays. A look at the titles in the contents had me hooked and I walked to the till without hesitation.
Do what you want to do, and go where you're going to…
