I own an extensive number of comic books which have the Beatles mentioned or in them. I have been collecting them for a long time. I am searching for an answer as to when they first appeared or were mentioned in this type of media if anyone knows. I have one from June 1963 but curious if there is an older one somewhere. Would love to know.

There is a book about The Beatles in comics that might tell. I almost bought it once but it didn’t have complete stories, just excerpts. Don’t remember the title.

I’ll make a catalogue of the books I own in the future

I bet you have all been waiting in anticipation for this but I was clearing out my bookshelves today and am getting rid of about 50 of my books so here is my comprehensive list, divided into who/what the book is about. I would give reviews but most of them I read in 2013/2014 i.e. before I had a Goodreads so I don’t remember much about them… will eventually get to another readthrough where I’ll chuck some of them out but for now they’re staying.

Beatles

John, Paul, George & Me – Tony Barrow

Riding So High – Joe Goodden

Magical Mystery Tours: My Life With The Beatles – Tony Bramwell

The Beatles – Hunter Davies

Les Beatles: Les Secrets de Toutes Leurs Chansons 1962-1966 and another edition 1967-1970 – Steve Turner (yes I know this is originally in English but I have the French editions and I want to sound fancy so a-hard-days-night-paul-11)

Revolution In The Head – Ian MacDonald (I hated this, I’m throwing it out)

Tune In – Lewisohn

The Anthology

John

The Private John Lennon Julia Baird (from what I remember it was good, focused more on teenage John obviously)

John – Cynthia Lennon

John Lennon – Philip Norman

Let Me Take You Down – Jack Jones (best book on John’s death around, I think)

In His Own Write

A Spaniard In The Works

The John Lennon Letters (great, great, great)

Memories of John Lennon (the most ‘eh alright’ book to have ever eh alrighted)

Paul

Many Years From Now – Barry Miles

Paul McCartney – Philip Norman

George

I, Me, Mine (the latest release and the 2002 death cash grab)

Working Class Mystic- Tillery (focused more on George’s spiritual and religious beliefs than his life)

Wonderful Tonight- Pattie Boyd

Miss O’Dell – Chris O’Dell (the woman has been everywhere and done everything)

Here Comes The Sun – Joshua M. Greene

Living in the Material World

Ringo

I have no books on Ringo

Misc Beatles

The Beatles Irish Concerts- Colm Keane (really great, comprehensive read)

A Date With a Beatle – Judith Kirsten (really fun read about one teenage girl’s desire to meet The Beatles in February, 1964. I imagine it is very much exaggerated to make it more exciting but a very sweet book.

Very Naughty Boys : The Amazing True Story of Handmade Films – Robert Sellers (I need to read this again but I remember it being very detailed and not having seen a lot of the films on my initial reading I ended up glossing over it a lot)

Summer of Love: The Making of Sgt. Pepper – George Martin (I bought this about 2 weeks before he died, I blame myself for his death)

Stuart Sutcliffe: The Lost Beatle – Alan Clayson & Pauline Sutcliffe (it’s alright)

Baby’s In Black : The Story of Astrid Kirchherr and Stuart Sutcliffe – Arne Bellstorf (graphic novel on those two, it’s cute)

A Cellarful of Boys – Brian Epstein

I have read about 3 other books on Paul but they’re all from the library. I also feel I am missing a few more that are hiding on my shelves but that’s most of them. I also have about 5 random Igloobooks that are your generic Beatles story with pictures hardback and they’re all being given away.

Yay!

I am going to go thru a lot of Beatles books from the seventies for a review of the one Beatles books I check out most ‘The Beatles and the Historians’, by Erin Torkelson Weber.

We will touch on many books, trying to enhance, but also undermine, conceptions and perceptions – all aiming to get a better idea about ‘doing history’ and understanding that we don’t know much about Beatles’ history, yet.
You will find appreciation and critique of all the wonderful work all kinds of writers and historians do expand the knowledge base of The Beatles, and their music. Because for me The Beatles story is about music. The music of The Beatles together and solo was the backbeat to the 60’s and 70’s cultural and political promise. The promise we the people, we the fans felt. History should address that.
It will be a review steeped in history, it started in the first week of 2021.
.
Enjoy the trip it is going to be a series, a roller coaster through history and culture.

Twilight of the Gods: the Beatles in Retrospect – Wilfred Mellers
Spaniard In The Works – John Lennon
In His Own Right – John Lennon
The Beatles Anthology
The Beatles: An Illustrated Record (2nd Ed) – Roy Carr and Tony Tyler
Lennon Remembers – Jann Wenner
John Lennon In His Own Words – Barry Miles
The Beatles In Their Own Words – Barry Miles
The Beatles Forever – Nichols Schaffner
Behind The Beatles Songs – Phillip Cowan
The Lennon Tapes – BBC

…and somewhere in the loft I’ve got what I can remember was claimed to be the first ever novel about The Beatles but can’t for the life of me remember anything else other than the story was that they got back together at a festival sometime in the 1970’s and were mid-bill because the world had moved on and in this alternative universe they weren’t as appreciated.

BEATLES ” GET BACK ” BOOK 1969 APPLE ( tie-in with “Let It Be” LP ) vg cond | eBay

There are fakes out there so be careful what you buy.

I found a very good copy of the book years ago in a second hand bookshop in Glasgow. Cost something like £35 (a lot of money for a young teenager) and I had to have it, so, to ensure it was genuine I got the seller to write a receipt saying it was and went away delighted.

Only realised weeks later that I had a useless piece of paper which meant nothing and more than likely a fake. Not that I was too fussed, I got what I wanted – a copy of the ‘Get Back ‘ book. I don’t care if it’s fake as I’m never going to sell it and it looks spectacular.

Whilst on film books, I have two copies of each the novels from the first two films – for some reason I wanted duplicates. They have the deleted scenes from the movie in them (I’m sure ‘AHDN ‘ does) and I read them frequently. Valued them so highly I kept them in a sealed bag where they remain to this day (along with  the ‘GB’ book).

So, you’re a bit of lightweight when it comes to having a library of Beatles books it seems, @Expert Textpert! ahdn_john_08_gifa-hard-days-night-george-10

I know…I might need a bigger apartment so I can actually have a decent amount of books. 😉

My list of books I want is currently way longer than my list of books I own, but I picked this up at a charity shop this morning

I haven’t had a chance to look at it properly, but there are at least a few photos I haven’t seen.

My hot take is that after the Beatles split they went down the paths of spiritualism, solipsism, alcoholism, and Paul McCartney

There are some books of the Fab which I need to add to the collection. I just added a new one. Here is my list:

Beatles Anthology (german Edition) – I need an english one too, I want to have the book in its original language.

Get Back (english)

Paul McCartney – Lyrics (english)

All the Songs – The Story behind every Beatles Release (english)

The Complete Beatles Songs by Steve Turner (english)

The Beatles (Photo Book) (german)

and new:

Daily Mail – The Beatles: Die Geschichte der vier Jungs, die die Welt veränderten (The story about the four boys, who changed the word) (german)

I scored a jackpot in a second hand book shop today:

 John by Cynthia Lennon

 Linda McCartney by Danny Fields

and best of all

the Beatles illustrated lyrics edited by Alan Aldridge

I’d gone looking for the latter online without success, so I’m chuffed
