It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
but I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right
Don't Think Twice, It's Alright – Bob Dylan
Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.

I was a quick wet boy
Diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes
Wide on my plastic toys
Then when the cops closed the fair
I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map
And called for you everywhere
Have I found you?
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping
Or lost you?
American mouth
Big pill looming
Now I'm a fat house cat
Cursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats
Curl through the wide fence cracks
Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold and clean
Blood of Christ mountain stream
Have I found you?
Flightless bird, grounded, bleeding
Or lost you?
American mouth
Big pill, stuck going down
-Flightless Bird, American Mouth by Iron & Wine
Very poetic… I like to read it as a metaphor for loss of innocence and then trouble in love

The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore
“It's All Over Now, Baby Blue” – Bob Dylan
Those lyrics always give me chills. It conjures up thoughts of “There, but for the grace of God ,…”.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Continuing with the Dylan and Don’t Think Twice theme (a fine choice Penny Lane )
So looong honey babe,
Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
Goodbye is too good a word babe,
So I’ll just say fare thee well,
I ain’t saying you treated me unkind,
You could of done better but,
I don’t mind,
You just kind of wasted my,
Precious time,
But don’t think twice, it’s alright
He truly does have a beautiful voice.

“Play the game, fight the fight
But whats the point on a beautiful night”
Paul McCartney – We All Stand Together.
Criminally slated as a piece of embarrasing dirge by the masses who just dont get what it is. George Martin scored some beautiful orchestral work for it.

“Twenty-three, when did we become grown?
I never noticed the seeds of the cynic being sown
Will we stave, will the harvest time reap
Freedom or chains, hope or disdain for the weak?
Twenty-three, when did we become safe?
We pray to feel pleasure and hate when we have to feel pain
Let me see your burn, let me see your bruise
You look just like me
Let me see where you're broken in two
We pretend when we find the end of ourselves
Afraid to be real so we say that we're somebody else
Little ones teach the big to be free
Children are only un-costumed humanity
While we wait here in the dark, love lends a spark
But we can't decide
'Cause coming back to life is harder than hell
Once you have died
Finally, I can see with your eyes
That everyone angry is only just aching inside
Twenty-three, when the sun sets tonight
There's always a reason we just cannot leave it behind”

Fleet Foxes – Someone You'd Admire
After all is said and done, I feel the same
All that I hoped would change within me stayed
Like a huddled moon-lit exile on the shore
Warming his hands, a thousand years ago
I walk with others in me, yearning to get out
Claw at my skin and gnash their teeth and shout
One of them wants only to be someone you'd admire
One would as soon just throw you on the fire
After all is said and after all is done
God only knows which of them I'll become
I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine

Blowin in the wind Bob Dylan
How many roads must a man walk down,
before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove fly,
before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must a cannon ball fly,
before they're forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
How many years can a mountain exist,
before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist,
before they're allowed to be free?
And how many times can a man turn his head,
and pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
How many times must a man look up,
before he sees the sky?
And how many ears must one man have,
before he can hear people cry ?
And how many deaths will it take till we know,
that too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
...They've forgotten all about God
He's the only reason we exist...

Prospekt’s March by Coldplay:
Smoke is rising from the houses.
People burying their dead.
I ask somebody what the time is,
But time doesn’t matter to them yet.
People talking without speaking,
Trying to take what they can get.
I ask you if you remember.
Prospekt, how can I forget?
Drums, here it comes.
Don’t you wish your life could be as simple
As fish swimming ’round in a barrel
When you’ve got the gun?
Oh, and I’ll run. Here it comes.
We’re just two little figures in a soup bowl,
Trying to get behind a kind of control,
But I wasn’t one.
Here I lie on my own in a separate sky.
And here I lie on my own in a separate sky.
I don’t wanna die on my own here tonight.
But here I lie on my own in a separate sky.
Violet Hill by Coldplay:
Was a long and dark December.
From the rooftops, I remember
There was snow:
White snow.
Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze down below.
When our future’s architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show,
You’d better lie low.
If you love me,
Won’t you let me know?
Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog became God .
Priests clutched onto Bibles,
Hollowed out to fit their rifles.
And the cross was held aloft.
Bury me in armor
When I’m dead and hit the ground.
My nerves are poles that unfold.
If you love me,
Won’t you let me know?
I don’t want to be a soldier
With a captain of some sinking ship
Would stow, far below.
So if you love me,
Won’t you let me go?
I took my love down to Violet Hill.
There we sat in snow.
All that time, she was silent still.
So if you love me,
Won’t you let me know?
White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes:
I was following the pack; I was following their coats
With scarves of red tied ’round their throats
To keep their little heads from falling in the snow,
And I turn ’round and there you go.
And, Michael, you would fall
And turn the white snow red as strawberries in summer time.

Sorry I picked so many songs, guys: I just couldn’t choose which one I liked the best! I really enjoy the political/religious messages in the first two songs, and I think Coldplay did a lovely job of making those bold statements in a poetic kind of way. I’m really drawn to the third song because Fleet Foxes was able to make a beautiful, meaningful song with only six lines: those are the lyrics to the whole song…it fascinates me every time!

Grand Optimist – City and Colour:
I fear I’m dying from complications
Complications due to things that I’ve left undone
That all my debts will be left unpaid
Feel like a cripple without a cane
I’m like a jack of all trades
Who’s a master of none
Then there’s my father
He’s always looking on the bright side
Saying things like “Son, life just ain’t that hard.”
He is the grand optimist
I am the world’s poor pessimist
You give him burdensome times
And he will escape unscarred
I guess I take after my mother
I used to be quite resilient
Gain no strength from counting the beads on a rosary
Now the wound has begun to turn
Another lesson that has gone unlearned
But this is not a cry for pity or for sympathy
I guess I take after my mother
Coldplay – A Rush Of Blood To The Head (only one verse):
Ah, ah, ah
He said Oh I’m going to buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
Oh and I’m going to buy this place, that’s what I said
Blame it upon a rush of blood to the head to the head
As if it matters how a man falls down.'
'When the fall's all that's left, it matters a great deal.

You wanna hear something freaky cool, Sun King ? I was debating on whether or not to use both of those songs before I decided on the three I posted. “A Rush Of Blood To The Head” is one of my favorite songs by Coldplay (especially the verse that you chose to use: it is by far the best part of the song). Coldplay just seems to have a knack for writing those beautiful political songs, don’t they? And I love the way Dallas threw in the line about taking after his mother in “Grand Optimist”. Pure brilliance.
So have some apples for your fantastic taste in music!

This is way beyond just funny anymore. This is sympatico.
Edit: Heard Neil Young’s Birds for the first time in a while. Love the lyrics:
there will be another one
Who’ll hover
over you beneath the sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today
When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go
It’s over, it’s over.
Nestled
in your wings my little one
This special
morning brings another sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today
When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go
It’s over, it’s over.
As if it matters how a man falls down.'

From Paul McCartney ‘s favorite song of all time, “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys :
“If you should ever leave me,
Though life would still go on, believe me,
The world could show nothing to me,
So what good would living do me?
God only knows what I’d be without you.”
PEACE OUT!!!

I’m on a weird Canadiana kick recently. But anyways, here’s the latest song with kickass lyrics:
Sundown in the Paris of the prairies
Wheat Kings have all their treasures barried
All you hear are the rusty breezes
Pushing around the weather vane Jesus
In a zippo lighter you see the killer’s face
Maybe it’s someone standing in the killers place
Twenty Years for nothing well that nothing new
Besides no one is interested in something you didn’t do
Wheat Kings and pretty things,
Lets just see what the morning brings
There’s a dream he dreams where the high school is dead and stark
It’s a museum and we’re al locked up and after dark up in it and after dark
Where the walls are lined all yellow gray and sinister
Hung with pictures of our parents prime ministers
Wheat Kings and pretty things,
Lets just see what the tomorrow brings
Late breaking story on the CBC,
A nation whispers “we always know he’d go free”
They add “you can’t be fond of living in the past,
Cause if you are then there is no way you are going to last”
Wheat Kings and pretty things,
Lets just see what the morning brings
Wheat Kings and pretty things,
That’s what tomorrow brings

“Happiness hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
With every bubble she sank with her drink
And washed it away down the kitchen sink
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run
Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind
You can’t carry it with you if you want to survive
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
‘Cause here they come
And I never wanted anything from you
Except everything you had and what was left after that too, oh
Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back
Struck from a great height by someone who should know better than that
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
‘Cause here they come
Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind
You can’t carry it with you if you want to survive
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
‘Cause here they come
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run.”
