I havent seen enough of him to form a hardline opinion, however i have no desire to see his movies.
Blackadder Goes Forth (a classic British comedy set during the First World War) has a discussion about Chaplin between the leading characters which still makes me laugh (you can see it here just skip the opening credits), tho you need to get sarcasm.

Great, great physical performer! I especially like City Lights, The Kid and The Gold Rush. I get more serious laughs from one of his old 20-minute shorts than most of today's so-called Hollywood "comedies".
One day, a tape-op got a tape on backwards, he went to play it, and it was all "Neeeradno-undowarrroom" and it was "Wow! Sounds Indian!"
