It kind of annoys me when a Beatles shirt has a song title on it, and then the picture on the shirt is from a different period than the song.

Hey all, my sometimes better half has asked me what I would like for Christmas.  We usually spend something of the order of $100 or so on each other, I have bought her a nice ‘Mimco’ hip bag she had been looking at in the store.  So, when I am dropping hints, what should it be?

I’m thinking that the George Harrison Dark Horse boxed set could be nice, I only have “Cloud 9” just now, and it is the original, not remastered version.  I had all of these, except for “Gone Troppo “, on LP once upon a long ago and quite liked them all.

However, if anyone has any other suggestions around this price range please let me know, being ‘between jobs’ just now I’m not likely to be able to buy something like this in one hit for some time so want to make sure there is nothing else I may have overlooked.  I currently have most of the rest of the solo CDs by all four except Paul’s out of print 70s output and some of the Ringo ones ‘in the middle’; I have pretty much all of Lennon including his “Anthology” box.

It seems the pre-order price of the deluxe version of Lewisohn’s book keeps going down. Would that be in your range?

Ah thanks – just the sort of ideas I am looking for!

I have the ‘basic’ book at the moment and enjoying it a lot, but it’s probably detailed enough for my level of interest – though as you can see from my first idea I am a sucker for stuff in boxes :)

You’re welcome. But that book will have photos exclusive to the edition, and that’s my weakness. :-D

Maybe one of Paul’s deluxe boxed editions, like McCartney or Ram or Band On The Run ? Ram comes with Thrillington , I think.

Ooh – now there’s some more great ideas.  I LOVE “Ram ” and will check it out – offbeat stuff like “Thrillington ” appeals – which is why I bought the boxed “Wedding Album ” the other day and was kind of sad to have a boxed “Back To The Egg ” vanish off ebay.

Thanks again for the ideas *wave*

I want ALL of those!

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

That Ram set looks great – I just watched some chap on YouTube open one – I must say it is very nicely put together.

Having said that I’ll probably go for the George boxed set for maximum musical mileage.  I’ll keep those McCartney sets in mind for the next time a contract rolls along and folks pay me unholy amounts of money a day that I can then blow in an amazingly short period of time … cycle repeats …

Haha, I’ve seen Blackadder a couple of times and forgot he uses “wibble.” I usually see the word online when people are expressing a desire/weakness for something… or someone.

Just to wrap this up – I went with the Dark Horse Years box set and it arrived on the doorstep today.  It looks SO nice; now I just have to persuade someone there is really no need to waste any Christmas wrapping paper on it, and in fact it would make the CD shelf look a lot better with it sat on top.

Hmm – should I keep my old version of the Cloud Nine CD so I can compare an original with a remaster, or is that much too obsessive collecting?

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8Surely you aren’t really asking this group if you are being too obsessive over the Beatles? Are you having a post-sugar rush crash?

Well, this question was posing a ‘fine line’ difference between obsessive collecting per se, and obsessive Beatles collecting.

Erm, where is my next chocolate bar ……

Great choice, tcanberra.

If you open it now then you will be able to squeeze even more delight from it (7 weeks worth) therefore heightening the value for money. Really you’re doing them a service so its a no-brainer.

I got the Stereo box for my christmas present from family and it was opened and downloaded onto my ipod by the 10th September.

I ended up giving it to my middle child – one of my 2 daughters – she likes the Beatles and Paul but may not have heard much George – hope she likes it.
