It was pretty good; not as good as the rapturous reviews would lead you to believe. Definitely written from and to a feminine perspective.  One thing that really bothered me and I just couldn’t shake off (ASJ, you will appreciate this). One of our protagonists is named Isabelle Rossignol. Rossignol is French for Nightingale.  Isabelle’s secret resistance code name is The Nightingale. So, in French, her name is Rossignol and her secret code name is… Rossignol. It seems like only an English-speaking author writing about French people would make such an obvious blunder. If you are writing about French people in France, you should also think in French.  Mais non?

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Recently I read Mick Fleetwood’s autobiography.  Of course I loved it, being a Fleetwood Mac nut, but I would also recommend it to anyone who likes rock music because he talks a lot about being involved with the music scene of London back in the 60’s.  He talks a lot about Brian Jones, The Beatles, and his own band of course.  The book actually goes into a lot of detail about the period between 1971-1974 when Fleetwood Mac  was led by Bob Welch, which most people tend to forget about.

Grooving some cookie spaghetti since 1968.

Thanks for all the recommendations! They will certainly keep me busy! Right now I am reading Anna Karenina. Thoughts?

@AppleScruffJunior No particular genre, but probably the most successful being historical fiction. (Not like Nightingale though. That book was terrible. XD)

Mine is an original 1952 copy, but is missing the paper outer sleeve. Will start on it tomorrow.

When you listen to Rossini’s ‘Barber of Seville’ and it sounds worse for not having 4 Beatles making stupid noises over it.

Finished reading Michael Brauns ‘Love Me Do !: Beatles Progress’ which was good. Not got much else on me to read as away from home and I can’t just pick up any book in a shop and read it so nothing of note.

I cleared off my library’s shelf of Agatha Christie books (20 in total.) I’ll be done in about a week or two. Starting with Ten Little Indians.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Will Shakespeare

I aim to have read all his plays by next year at least.

Shakespeare should be watched instead of read. It’s like printing out the teleplay of A Hard Day’s Night .

Sorry I hurt your field, ma’am, but what if I want to take it at my own pace and actually stop to figure out what people are saying? They all talk too fast in AHDN anyway. a-hard-days-night-paul-11

Currently reading this book for summer reading:

It’s a good book, definitely, but really short. I’m already on chapter 13 out of the 19 chapters and I just got the book earlier this week. I’m probably gonna have to go back to the library to get a different book for when I go on vacation in August

Found it in a charity shop and so even tho its the final in the series I’ve only read one of the other books; seen all the tv episodes. It’s very good to be fair and I can’t remember a lot so there is some remaining mystery included.

Already finished this book. Definitely enjoyed it. I never realized that I had such a thing for mystery books. Off to the library I’ll probably go in a few days! a-hard-days-night-george-9
