One of my favourite, most fun jazz LPs of the classic-rock-album era; and certainly the only one of its year incorporating amplifier feedback and broken glass recorded live in studio – album has a real freewheeling rock ‘n roll spirit! From the blind-since-birth genius multi-instrumentalist (and occasional simultaneous multi-instrumentalist) Roland Kirk leading a stellar rhythm trio of Jaki Byard, Elvin Jones, and Richard Davis (piano/drums/bass), it’s Rip, Rip & Panic.
(Recorded January 13, 1965 – Beatles perform a Christmas show, in *January* for some reason? And *Jimmy Savile* is involved?? This can’t have really happened, oh wait it did)

Two covers of David Bowie’s song, Life On Mars?:
Life On Mars? – PostmodernJukebox featuring Olivia Kuper Harris
Life On Mars? – Aurora
I enjoy both versions although they are quite different.

I was shuffling Tina’s catalog last night myself (per “death as career move” thread), and YouTube tells me that she also performed an ’86 duet with our Paul on “Get Back ” – a song she also covered on 1970’s “Workin Together” album (w/Ike); and said album also covered “Let It Be “, so it’s nice that they recognized the dichotomy between that particular pairing of songs in particular, in that particular year.
Now: Listening to Little Steven’s Underground Garage, now playing the Stones’ “Happy” leading into the Drifters’ “Some Kind of Wonderful”. (I think the last Beatles track played on the channel was “You Like Me Too Much “, hours ago…)

The current Baker’s Dozen theme has me thinking about “walking” songs. The great Fats Domino tune I’m Walkin’ came to mind. Like many other Black artists that were covered by Caucasian pop stars (including The Beatles), I assumed for several years this was a Ricky Nelson original. I sure hope the saying “A rising tide lifts all boats” is true .

Fats also had hits with “Walkin’ To New Orleans” and “I Want To Walk You Home”.

Again on the station, and two of the last three songs aired have been Beatles covers! Siouxsie & The Banshees’ “Dear Prudence “, followed up minutes later by the Supremes’ fairly weak “You Can’t Do That “, from ’64’s “A Bit of Liverpool” concept album. Diana Ross was too passive a singer to really capture the attitude; I wish Martha and the Vandellas had done it instead
